You may as well get a reconditioned starter as the best cheap option. The main thing though is to disconnect the battery before tackling the removel of the starter motor. As for the removel of the starter motor, if you approach the job in a logical manner then it should not present too many problems. Look at the position of the starter motor and the securing bolts (these bolts will be tight) and look at the access you have to work in and remove the starter. Wire brush the threads of the bolts before refitting.

You can replace the gaitors and track rod ends. On older racks you could fit shims to the rack to tighten up the free play. However on modern racks you need to take of the rack to recondition it. Sorry I could not be of more help.
SOURCE: i have bought an engine for my fiat punto 53 plate
hi, the engine you have brought should fit as most of them will fit even if the cc is different so i wouldnt worry to much about it.
The only thing you would have a problem with is if your engine is petrol and they send you a diesel engine.
As long as its the same fuel it wont matter to much if its a bigger cc engine then it will have more power and less if the engine was smaller but they will all fit into your car so i wouldnt worry to much. Even if the engine was out of a car 2 years older than yours or 2 or 3 years newer as they are all the same.
Just make sure you get some sort of warranty because you are buying from a scrap yard they havnt been driving the car around its just come into the scrap yard and they take it that the engine is fine so once fitted check for any noises or oil leaks etc.
You will also need to put your gearbox off your engine onto the new engine as the new one is from a scrap yard it might have the clutch and pressure plate still attatched to teh new engine as this is not a part inside the gearbox but attatched to the engine so if your car had no problems with the clutch then make sure you change this over from your engine onto the new engine.
Also make sure you give the new engine a full service change oil and filter etc.
Also worth doing is once the car is running buy a fuel cleaner that you put into the fuel tank this will then run through the fuel system cleaning all the injectors as the chances are the car has been sitting for a while and may have got bunged up slightly.
Make sure you buy the correct fuel cleaner that goes into the tank ie petrol or diesel ok.
Let me know if you need further assistance ok.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities.
It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then
it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure
or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty
ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.
To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
