I had the engine on and the air conditioner going and was parked waiting for my sister to get out of school. Next thing I know the engine is smoking - I mean A LOT. I tried to move from where I was parked - right out in front of my sisters school!! - about then I could smell something burning and I turned off engine. After 30 mins I started the jeep and drove about 3 blocks to my grandfather's home. He seemed to think it was my radiator hose. We ordered one, replaced it, the jeep is smoking very little and running good. My grandfather said the plastic part that is actually attached to the radiator looks like it is cracked. What do you think happened? And I need to do what?
94 jeep cherokee 6cyclinder....starts and idles sluggish....when driving it is ok...sometimes when stopping seems like wants to stop running...any suggestions what might be...
Fill the rad and check for leaks. Bring the engine temp up to normal, if necessary. Try not to spill any water when filling the rad, if you do, let it dry before starting the car, JKust makes it easier to find the leak. Frankster016

frankster016,
Thanks for the info. I didn't know what to expect from this site but I am pleasantly surprised!
From how I understand it - there are two different radiators that might go in this jeep.
One is a radiator where you could replace the cracked hose or attachment only OR the other - the
entire radiator would need to be replaced. We had to replace the entire radiator. It wasn't too terribly expensive. The mechanic that did this said that we should be careful taking longer trips - he said the fan closest to the radiator doesn't do it's job by keeping things cool and NOT breaking or cracking. As I read on this site I am seeing that does seem to be a common problem. Any words of wisdom of how I should address this concern? Thanks again frankster016!!
