Take vechicle to dealership or garage let them reset adjust correct idle speed and relearn it to the ecm so car will idle right.

SOURCE: 2002 saturn sl1 idle too high

Can be but also check and make sure there are NO vacuum leaks or broken vacuum hoses anywhere on intake. I would also suggest if engine light is on is to take this vehicle to an AUTO ZONE they will check by computer for this problem and let you know for FREE. When you get the code I would be more than glad to help you further. Don't guess you may be wasting money and time. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: high idle at start then oscilates after warm

It is a vacuum leak for sure, but where? Try buying a can of aerosol carb cleaner with a straw and spraying it in different areas and listening for a change. Also, a mechanics stethoscope with just the tube is great for pin pointing vacuum noises. Without any hesitation, I would put a new PCV valve in just because this has caught me on Hondas so many times and they are dirt cheap.

98 eclipse 2.0 idles high at 2500 rpms an I just replaced the throttle positioning sensor

sounds like you may have a vacuum leak. any air entering engine not passing through the throttle body will cause engine to race. a whistling sound is sometimes a sign of vacuum leak but not always audible. propane is the recommended method finding leak but I find this unreliable. spraying carb cleaner around suspect areas and listening for a rpm change is more successful. just remember carb cleaner is extremely flammable and caution must be used.

1985 celebrity starts and idles then starts to idle higher and higher what:'s wrong

Sounds like either a vacuum leak, a TPS throttle position sensor, an AIC air idle control valve, or worst case scenerio, an intake manifold gasket. Try spraying brake cleaner directly onto intake manifold at the gasket. If idle lowers, that is the problem. Also spray all visible vacuum hoses and listen for idle drop. Listen for air hissing as well. Good luck let me know if these are good tips

In cold weather thecar starts`ok but the rpms go to 2000 and slowly returns to around 1200 and stays there

idle air control valve is suppose to let the rpms go high to warm the motor to normal temp, and then drop it to 1200 rpms

My 1998 saturn sl series idles to high even after 100 mile drive

Start by replacing the coolant temp switch. It is different than the sensorThe temp switch tells the computer if the car is warmed up to change idle.It is the best place to start and it is only 9.00 at Auto Zone

My car idles really high and drives on its own up to 40 miles an hour. I changed the tps; the spark plugs; the valve gasket cover cause oil leaked out into spark plugs and new plug wires changed the fuse...

Sounds like the AIC...Air Idle Control is stuck...usually located on the plenum just past the air intake hose/line...you can try cleaning the AIC before replacing it...Hope this helps.
