Under the car on the drivers side you will see a threaded rod that goes through a saddle that goes off with two cables to the rear wheels, adjust the cable there using the adjustment nut.
Hi Keatrin:
Check this adjustemnt procedure:
Drum Brakes
Adjust the rear brakes.
Apply the parking brake to 10 clicks, then release. Repeat 5 times.
Make sure the parking brake is fully released. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The BRAKE warning lamp should be off. If the BRAKE warning light is still on, pull downward on the front parking brake to remove the slack from the pedal assembly.
Raise and safely support the vehicle with safety stands.
Adjust the parking brake by turning the nut on the equalizer while spinning both rear wheels. When either rear wheel develops drag, stop adjusting and back off the equalizer one full turn.
Apply the parking brake to four clicks and check the rear wheel rotation. The wheel should not move when you attempt to rotate it, by hand, in a forward rotation. The wheel should drag or not move when attempting to rotate it in a rearward direction.
Release the parking brake and check for free wheel rotation.
Carefully lower the vehicle.
Rear Disc Brakes
Apply the parking brake pedal three times with heavy force of about 175 lbs. (778 N).
NOTE
Do not apply the main/service brake pedal during the next step.
Fully apply and release the parking brake three times.
Raise the vehicle and safely support the vehicle with safety stands.
Matchmark the position of the wheel to the hub and bearing assembly.
Make sure the parking brake is fully released. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. The BRAKE warning lamp should be off. If the BRAKE warning light is still on, pull downward on the front parking brake to remove the slack from the pedal assembly.
Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies, then reinstall two lug nuts to retain the rotors.
The parking brake levers on both calipers should be against the lever stops on the caliper housing. If not against the stops, check for binding in the rear cables and/or loosen the cables at the adjuster until both left and right levers are against their stops.
Tighten the parking brake cable at the adjuster until either the right or left lever reaches the dimensions shown in the accompanying figure.
NOTE
Do not apply the main/service brake pedal during the next step.

Operate the parking brake several times to check adjustments. A firm
pedal should be present. The rear wheels should not rotate forward when
the parking brake is fully applies. If necessary, repeat steps 8 and
9. Remove the two wheel lug nuts, then install the rear wheel and
tire assemblies.
Carefully lower the vehicle.
