I have a 2007 A4 convertible and it's the same. If the doors are unlocked, you just have to push on the right side of the fuel door and it opens.
InInside the drivers door in the back of the storage compartment is the switch to open the fuel door.

There is no button to open the gas door from the inside of the car. As long as the doors are unlocked, you should be able to push in the far right side of the gas door and the left side will pop open. I too spent hours looking for this non existent button..I went as far as to going back to the car dealership.

Not that I am an expert, but I saw a recall for the fuel pump. You may want to see if yours has been changed.

If there's no fuel door button inside the car (passenger door, center console, driver's door, etc) then you may just be able to push on the actual fuel door. Push on the front edge of the fuel door and it should swing open. I know a lot of Volkswagens are like this and since they're the same company, the door should open the same
