2001 impala replaced ignition switch, now wont turn over. NO security in message center

I just bought 2001 impala, the ignition was not working efficiently (had to jiggle it just right, very hard) so i replaced it with an ignition switch from a 2003 Impala. Now when I turn the key the car has power, but will not turn over. As best I can tell there is no security warning displaying in the message center, it already had other messages cycling thru it (low oil, change oil, high beam out, trunk open (when its not)) So my question is; Could the security light for some reason not be displaying, and the car definitely needs to be put thru the process of switching on for 10 mins, off, on etc. to learn the new key/ignition switch until it starts, or am I potentially looking at another problem?

Unless you used the correct coded key cylinder the engine will not start.

SOURCE: 2001 Chevy impala had ignition switch replaced,

Turn the key to "on" and let the light flash. It should stop flashing after about ten to twenty minutes. Once the light is on steady, turn it off, then start the car. I usually put another battery on jumper cables attached to the cars battery so it does not run down and die before the system re-arms.

O1 chevy impala reads error on radio display...wont start. ???

TRY THIS!
30-MINUTE LEARN PROCEDURE
1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON, vehicle will not start.
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale. After approximately 10 minutes, the telltale will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 two more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
6. Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password.

IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the Passlock(TM) Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.

Security light has been on since ignition switch got replaced and now she wont start

the small yellow wire on the ignition switch is probably broken thereby engaging the pats system (passive antitheft system)

Security system light is on

Ignition switch faults are common. You need to scan the Body Control Module (BCM) to see why the light was turned on. If the ignition switch is replaced the BCM has to be programmed to accept the new switch.

Ignition control module on a 2001 Chevy Impala

There is a switch relay that plugs behine the ignition switch cylinder. You would have to take apart the dash console to take it apart to replace it.Also helps solve a few problem on the 2001 chevrolet impala, with heat gauage not working and a/c not blowing cold air anymore.Replacing it, should fix the problem with that.

2001 chevy impala security light keeps coming on

This is a problem with chevy vehicles that have the system theft light. after a couple of years of using the key, the lock tumblers inside the ignition switch tend to wear out and so causing the system to think it's being stolen. Now you have to put the key in and turn the ignition to the on position, without cranking the car and leave it for 10 minutes until the theft light goes out. Very annoying especially if you're in a hurry. The dealer cost to repair the ignition switch goes for about $600-$800. that includes re-teaching the key.
