Kill switch stopped working for my GMC 06 Canyon where is it located, so I can disable it? Any ideas?

After the stop lights got stuck last night, my son checked all the fuses took them all out and put them all back just as they were. This morning the kill swith remote that was installed at the dealer when I bougtht the truck stopped working. Not sure how to disable because my truck just wont start unless the button on the killswitch remote is pressed. When I press it a red light comes on where as before it did not.

SOURCE: 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 4wd. Auto transfer case light issue

I have the same problem. It is intermittent and sometimes shows up with service transmission message. To get rid of it just put the truck in park, press the 2 high button and shift into drive while it is still flashing. I will worry about it more when it blows up. You can drive with the vehicle showing the solid neutral and it seems to make no difference. It has to be a wake up problem between the control modules. It only happens on start up.

SOURCE: From red light truck started sputtering and and stalled out

Hello. The GMC Sierra has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before checking it. You may need to clean your fuel pump or replace it if your gas tank is not empty, but your vehicle has difficulty getting fuel. The GMC Sierra comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.

SOURCE: I own a 2005 GMC Canyon Five CYL and the cruise

Start with the simple and check the fuses and the Stop lamp switch. Check your brake lights, if they're not working, the cruise won't work either. If they're not working, check the fuse for them, if the fuse is fine, then take it into the dealer, there's been a recall issued on the brake switch, so it should get fixed for free.
Cruise Control Disengaged
The powertrain control module (PCM) disengages the cruise control operation based on the signals from the following switches:

* The stop lamp switch
* The TCC brake/cruise release switch
* The clutch release switch, if equipped
* The cruise control On/Off switch

The TCC brake/cruise release switch and the stop lamp switch are mounted on the brake pedal bracket. When the brake pedal is applied, the normally closed TCC brake/cruise release switch opens and the normally open stop lamp switch closes. The PCM detects a low signal voltage on the TCC brake/cruise release switch signal circuit and a high signal voltage on the stop lamp switch signal circuit. When the clutch pedal is applied, the normally closed clutch release switch opens and the PCM detects zero voltage on the CCP switch signal circuit. The vehicle speed stored in the memory of the PCM will be erased when the cruise control On/Off button is turned OFF, or the ignition switch is turned OFF.

The Cruise Control System will disengage when the PCM detects that a driver override function has been active for approximately 60 seconds .

When the Cruise Control System is disengaged, the PCM sends a class 2 message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) in order to deactivate the cruise control indicator.

Cruise Control Inhibited
The powertrain control module (PCM) inhibits the cruise control operation when any of the following conditions exist:

* A cruise control related DTC has been set.
* The vehicle speed is less than 40.2 km/h (25 mph) .
* The vehicle is in PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL, or 1st gear.
* The engine RPM is too low.
* The engine RPM is too high, with fuel cut off.
* The vehicle speed is too high, with fuel cut off.
* The system voltage is not between 9 volts and 16 volts .
* The Traction Control System (TCS) is active for more than 2 seconds .

Thank you for using Fixya and start with replacing the stop lamp switch. Even though the brake light work, it;s been known for that switch to cause your issue. that's way there was a recall for it.

I have a 2005 gmc canyon 4x4 auto. i was pulling in to under ground parking and after i stopped i could no longer shift out of drive. i turned it of and tried to start it again and it wouldnt start which...

It will only crank to start in neutral or park. If you turned the switch off before you put in park, the shifter will not move up to get in either. Turn the switch on, put it in park, then turn the switch off. The key won't even come out if not in park. Safety features can sometimes be a pain, but they work.

I have an 06 canyon. The check engine light keeps coming on. And now there is a warning ding going off with nothing displaying on info center. Brake lights stop work except for the third? Wats going on?

RE: check engine light, stop by any good parts store and have an OBII scan (fault scan). That will pull codes that will identify what triggered light. RE: Brake lights, check wiring in and around tail lights (especially if you have trailer wiring)

Brake light switch

In the 04 models there has been a recall on a part in the brake lights. You can look it up and it gives you a number to call GMC. If you truck is one of the affected models they will replace it for you.
