SOURCE: Subaru Impreza gas cap door won't open

If there is one - In trunk - directly behind the gas filler door - behind trunkliner (carpet)
The cable should not have any problems... use a partner to hold the door release and try and pry it open with your fingers.
The spring popper may be bad.
Try this if you dont have an assistant :D

SOURCE: gas cap door will not open when release latch is

There is a cable between the lever and the door release mechanism. Either that cable has come loose or is broken, you can gently open the door with a small screw driver by pushing on the release mechanism.

SOURCE: won't open my door when

can you manually unlock the lock and open the door?? Is it more than one door or just one specific door? If its just one door, yourcactuator inside the door may be bad or you have a wire issue. If its all the doors, more than likely you blew a fuse or a relay(id say fuse)

SOURCE: Gas cap release won't open

  • Well there are a couple things that could be going on. And the year and model of Subaru would help but I can give some things that will help for any vehicle in this situation. Try those and if they do not work I will need the year and model of Subaru so I can instruct how to get to the cable and door.

  • You can try having someone hold the gas lever while you go try to manually pull the gas door open. Sometimes the plastic ring from the cap gets caught in the door and wedges it closed. Also sometimes that little metal tab gets bent a bit and and a simple pull on the gas door release handle will not pop the door open.
  • Check to make sure the latch is not broke where it connects to the cable. The gas door release tabs are made of plastic and often break. Should this be the case often times you can take a pair of needle nose pliers in there and grab the wire going to the door and pull out and up a tad releasing the door.

  • On some vehicle you can take the panel off that surrounds the gas cap door and removing a screw and housing and remove a couple more screws and then you can see the screw that sets the tension to the door.

  • Sometimes the cable runs under the seat and the carpet has to be pulled up to get to the cable.

  • You can take a really small Flathead screwdriver and take a handkerchief over the tio or it (to prevent scratching) and try to gently pop the door open while someone is holding the door latch open. Many times it will pop open and adjusting that little metal tab or the spring on the gas door fixes this issue.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa

Regards, Tony

Gas cap release on 2013 Outback freezing. Parked it in the SUBARU Dealer garage for 40 minutes and it freed up. Where does the cable run so I can hit it with a hair dryer or heater when it sticks?

The gas cap release cable runs from the floor, under the carpet, then across under the back seat to the gas cap.

The problem is usually that the release lever assembly rusts up due to ice and snow. A new assembly is about $40, and not difficult to replace: the carpet has to lifted to do it.

If your problem is the gas cap door not opening (ie not the release lever...) the door hinge needs lubricating. The best approach is to remove the door, apply some silicon-based lube to the hing and wiggle it till the hinge turns freely. Reinstall the gas cap door.

The gas cap won't pop open.. makes a noise.. i am almost out of gas

There is no other release. Take it to a mechanic or the dealer. Or else just force the door open to reach the cap. Is it just a door cover or the fuel cap itself?

Video isn't working. Check in your owners manual, you might have a lever inside the trunk or area really close to the door.

Subru impreza gas cap won't open

Well, first maybe try pushing in on the cap while twisting it counter clock-wise. You may, if that doesn't work, just hit it with a rubber mallet. Simply break it apart and get a new one. They aren't very expensive.

NEED TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT ON DRIVER SIDE OF 07 SUBARU TRIBECCA.

You need to remove the battery hold down bracket and scoot the battery towards the engine you don't have to disconnet the battery to do this, that way you won't lose your stereo presets. you will then have access to the bulb covers that twist off. They are marked on the covers for which way to turn them, also, do NOT touch the new bulb if you did not already know. I hope this info helps.
