Thanks for choosing FixYa. Water and dirt can get on your pads and get caught up causing sqeaking. It can also be a bad break pad. It would be best if you take it off and check it. Consider getting flaps if you don't have them already to block water and rocks.

Assuming you have checked for wear or damage, some brake noise on initial application each day is normal. If the brakes are wet then even more so. It is usually the rear drum brakes that generate the noise, although the front brakes could as well. It is due to moisture and a light haze of rust building up on the drum and rotor surface. The first couple of applications tend to burn off this overnight coating, and all is good for the balance of the day. One other thing that can lead to brake noise is improperly installed brake pads. Most modern disc brake setups use shims behind the pads to eliminate any air gap between the pad and the caliper. If the shims are left out this can lead to the pads vibrating on application, resulting in the high pitch squeal. Make sure that pad shims are installed on your front brakes. Normally this would lead to noise all the time, but would be more sensitive when wet.

If the car is old/a bit older from when you first bought it,Then you will have natural wear. You have brake dust on it, this is normal. If this gets wet it will rust so fast you would not beleave me. Put some wet wire wool on the drainer and see for yourself how long it takes to leave rust marks!!!! If you hear any metal scrape at all you need to replace them straight away. You should get your brake pads cheked soon. Dont go to a garage unless you can afford to. they will just say they need replacing, no matter what and charge you and probably leave the old ones on. If you know someone or trust your regular garage go to them.

2002 dodge ram 1500 brake and parking lots went out

Both. If the running lights ( marker, tail, clearence, or parking) and brake lights are out since the rain, a tail light assembly is broken and filling with water enough to create a short to ground. If there's no broken lens, whitch normally only blows the bulb. Then, the problem lyes in the trailer light harness. the brown wire (tail) & green wire (left turn/brake or yellow wire (right turn/brake) must be bare exsposed that shorts to ground when wet. all the trailer wires could be smashed together damaged the plastic coating on them. no problem till water shorts to ground. The white wire is the ground wire make its not able to touch the other 3 wires or bare & wet. Tape wires seperate then replace tail/mkr fuse and brake fuse. That should do it.

Do the brakes slide when they are wet?

Hi Lorraine,
I was reading through your question and noticed you description of what your brakes did when you were (i assume) driving in wet weather conditions.

Jeremy W. is absolutely correct on this one.

However, due to your comment I would like to add this:

What you most likely experienced was a NORMAL activation of the antilock brake system. When one or more of your wheels begin to slip on the pavement, your brake system will go into "antilock mode" This will cause the brake pedal to kick back at you a little and start vibrating rapidly. It feels really strange when this happens if you have never experienced it before.

I would suggest doing this to get to know your car better. The next time it rains, drive your car on a side road away from traffic and while doing 15 to 25 Mph, hit the brake really hard. The brakes should go into antilock mode and you will feel the sensation that you felt before. This way you can get used to it and won't be nervous to drive because it can build your confidence in your brake system and familiarize you with the normal operation when your wheels are slipping.

Some people drive the same car for YEARS and never had this happen because they had not been in a situation where the wheels began slipping. Then totally freak out the first time it DOES happen.

My belt keeps slipping off, but only when it rains. I find it hard to believe that water is getting up in there because I do have the covers on. Could it be the tensioner? Again, it is only falling off...

It could be the tensioner or an idler pulley (if equipped).
I'd check the alignment of any pulley where the belt's back...runs on a smooth surface.

Hope this helps...

Squeaking noise and knocking noise coming from front drivers side. No noise when driving in wet conditions. No noise when i reverse and brake either.

I would first check your front half shafts, it seems like they are either worn out or the boots have torn or cracked allowing dirt and moisture to get into the bearings.

Definitely sounds like the the PDB is getting wet. Simulate rain with a water hose w/ a nozzle gun. Spray it on the windshield and around the hood area and track where the water goes to determine what's getting wet.

2005 chevy Impala brakes sqeak loudly

You brakes are no longer any good. Most times, the squeaking and rubbing noises are caused by brake pad wear, but you say the brakes are fine. Otherwise, if by constant rotation speed you mean the squeaking/rubbing noise is present even when the brakes are not applied, you might want to get the wheel bearing inspected.
also check out -------- The most common would be a loose P/S belt. If it is tight but is still the source, it could be a restriction in the P/S system causing high pressure and resistance in the pump.
