I have a 2000 S70 Volvo. There are many times it will not start. The engine turns over but sometimes it will not start. I remove the key reinsert it and it will start. This does not always work the first, second or third time but it does eventually start. I have never not had it start. There are times that when trying to start it it revs up high and dies (for about a second). Any ideas?

SOURCE: volvo s70 radio code

You must take the car to a Volvo dealer so they can reference the code from the VIN number. If you call it in, they only assume you stole the radio. Sometimes you have to prove you own the car.

SOURCE: Replace Heater Core for Volvo S70 (1999)

It is your heater core. I fixed mine for $144. Ordered the new part on Ebay and followed these instructions http://www.volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?showtopic=9717 It was very simple, I'm a middle age grandmother! The hardest part was cleaning up all the antifreeze. You will need a shopvac, a small one is $20 at WalMart.

SOURCE: 1999 volvo radio code

To reset the radio you have to leave the key in position one (the radio will come on, but the dash lights are not on) with the radio on for at least two hours. It can take up to four hours to reset.
Make sure the climate control and blower are in the off position to keep the battery from running down. Eventually the radio will say "code". There is a four digit code that is unique to each radio, if you don't have it you must contact the local Volvo dealer and have your VIN code. The VIN code is locate on the far top/right side of the dash, you must be outside the car to see it. It will begin with something like YV1LS...................

When you get this code from the dealer you input the code using the radio preset (1-6 buttons). If the radio says code again that means it is the incorrect radio code. Most likely the radio has been replaced. Then it would be alot easier to take it to the dealer since the radio has to be removed and the serial number taken off the radio chassis unit. Usually most dealers will do it for free if they think you'll come back for services, so just tell them you just bought it and be nice, hopefully it will work.

hope this helps

First code is for an immobilizer problem. Clean the contacts for the antenna ring around the ignition switch first. Second codes is for the Cam position sensor. Could be caused by the sensor or a sticky VVT valve.

Check Engine light P1670

I have a 2000 Volvo S70 as well with the same code. Do you ever have trouble starting your car? I did and that's why I took it to the dealer. Appartently it's the code for the ignition immobilizer system in your car (part of the security system). Specifically, a part call the antenna ring. The antenna ring is the outer portion of your ignition switch on the steering column - the part that lights up and has the following printed on it: 0 - I - II - III. This part is actually a sensor that transmits the code stored in the microchip inside of your key. When this part goes bad it fails to transmit the correct key code to the computer, and cuts the fuel to the engine.

The dealer wanted to charge me $550 for a new antenna ring, two new keys, and software to program the car's computer with the new key codes. I purchased the antenna ring online for $50 and did it myself in 15 minutes - so easy. They claim that you can't replace the antenna ring without new software - lie! You only need the software if you are replacing the keys.

Car is running great.
