1992 olds ciera When I start it cold the check engine light comes on then the temp light comes on and it is idleing rough so I give it gas to get the RPMs up and it automatically goes to a very high rpm. It will run like that for a short while with lights cleared, then they re appear, the engine runs with what seems like a missfire then shuts off. It does not do the same thing everytime, when I get it to warm up it runs fine. One thing I did notice was that my radiator is full of sludge although it does not get hot.

ON THE RADIATOR THERE IS A BLACK OR METAL PLUG ITS LOCATED ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RADIATOR ON THE LEFT OR RIGHT HAND SIDE UNSCREW THAT AND THE RAD WILL DRAIN OF JUST PULL OFF THE BOTTOM RAD HOES AND THAT WILL DRAIN IT AS WELL BUT BE READY IT WILL COME OUT VERY FAST

1- check for codes with scanner to see why check light coming on. 2 unbolt exhaust before caterlic convertor. Run car to see if still does it.If it does not the caterlic converter is the problem.the car temp should not go over 220 degrees. if car is getting to hot it will shut off,check cooling system and cooling fans to make sure they are comming on. Also if water is flowing through thermastat.Map sensor when gets hot could cut out. some places to look. doug
