Rear suspension the rear suspension will not work any more where do I start to fix this problem

  • heightron Oct 26, 2008

Air suspension dash light comes on after driving about 15 minutes after a couple of hours of driving the rear drops down. Restarting the car resets it and the light is off for about 10 minutes again. Fuses are OK.

I have a 99 lincoln town car and the rear air ride don't work the back of the car is hitting the ground how do i fix that

This is a common problem as the years go by with Lincoln suspension. Best alternative is to get rid of the air bags and replace with springs, the ride won't be as thugh your floating along as Town Cars do, but your problem will be solved.

EVERY Lincoln I've owned has suffered from air bag suspension issues. It's cost me a small fortune over the past 20 years. I believe Ford has a responsibility to recall and correct this widespread problem of faulty air bag suspension. It's a huge issue that occurs in more Ford vehicles with air bag suspension than Ford will admit. If you have a Lincoln...be prepared for air bag suspension failure. Get rid of the air suspension and replace with springs. FORD...you owe your supporters assistance with your faulty suspension!!!!!

Air suspension does not work

The best way to fix Air ride issues is to get a conversion kit. We paid $200 online for ours and my husband installed the new parts. We were told fixing the air ride could cost upwards of $3000. Experience from several people told us that parts on the air ride go out quickly once it starts having problems. Ours rides just as well as before and we will never have another air ride problem again. Our Navigator is AWD 4x4.

Need to locate the air pump that supplies the rear shocks.

The pump is back under the rear of car, but by now, the shocks are sure to be leaking, which causes the pump to run too much burning it up. Best fix is to replace rear shocks with coils and dump the self leveling feature, or prepare to pay big bucks to replace most components.

Having it hooked up to a factory scan tool would be your best bet . Check for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes . Without testing ,code scan ,we'd only be guessing .
Very complex , the untrained person hasn't got a pray of fixing this . You have no idea what your dealing with . Vehicle Dynamic Suspension The vehicle dynamic suspension consists of the following components:
  • Rear air suspension control (RAS) module (5A919)
  • Snorkel
  • Drier
  • Air compressor (5319)
  • Air suspension switch (5K761)
  • Solenoid valve (5311)
  • Air spring (5560)
  • Air suspension height sensor (5359)
  • Air line
  • Rear Air Suspension Control Module
A microprocessor controls the air suspension system. The microprocessor and its supporting hardware are contained in the rear air suspension control module. The rear air suspension control module responds to signals from various sensors in the vehicle to maintain the programmed ride height while the vehicle is either moving or stopped. The rear air suspension control module accomplishes this by opening and closing solenoid valves to control the amount of air in the air spring(s). The rear air suspension control module turns on the compressor by applying voltage through the compressor relay to inflate the air spring(s) and raise the vehicle. The rear air suspension control module opens the vent solenoid to lower the vehicle by releasing air from the air spring(s) in response to signal inputs from the air suspension height sensor(s).

I have a 2001 lincoln navigator an the rear end is sitting very low since 2 days ago and i have no idea how to trouble shoot it

Check fuses for the air pump. I think that has air ride and the pump is probably not working to air up the rear shocks. If you have the owners manual, look in the back for "Fuses" and go to that page. That will tell you where the fuses are and what they are for. Good Luck.

Low rear suspension on my 1999 Cadillac DeVille

Do you hear your compressor running? It may be that it is getting tired and ready to burn out on you. I replaced the compressor twice on my Deville before I found that there were so many holes and nicks in the air bags and it was going to cost me almost $1500 to fix the whole system. I went online and found Strutmasters. I got a non air conversion kit for my car and love it. Saved me money and headache.
