My car has a check engine light, when taking off from first gear the car bogs and wants to stall. I just replaced the mass air flow sensor. The computer sends a code for a cylinder 1 misfire. About three weeks ago it first sent a code for an O2 sensor.I'm not sure if I should replace the plugs and wires first or the O2 sensor??
What you should check first is the spark plug for the #1 cylinder and see if there is a white film on it this would be a sign of a coolant leak which would cause a problem with the O2 sensor

You might need to give it new plugs and wires! Also check the plenum on top of engine for cracks! That can cause a misfire in cylinders! The plenum on a 3.8 V6 is hard plastic and cracks easy!
check all fuses. cuts out hot or cold engine.????????
if it wont start and car gets 60k tuneup (?)
then connect scan tool and crank for 5 seconds.
see if you get scan DTC errors , cranking (release key) see em?
stalls are caused by over 50 reasons. guessing is impossible or very expensive.
enter: Diagnosis,
you take measurements, and find the failure path then work that path like bird dog.
2.5L 4cyl engine. I just sold min last week. with 5sp M/T
cuts out, does that mean the engine stalls?
we need to know what it really does.
1: stalls (engine rpm drops to 0 RPM)
2: engine rpm drops to 300rpm and shakes.
3: power loss from engine?
4: only stalls at stop signs...?
5: bogs all them time, same as #3
6: engine misfires (shake)
7: bogs only on throttle TIP-IN then recovers.
8: bogs only on hills.
REPLACE SPARK WIRES THAT COULD BE MISFIRE PROBLEM, ANY TIME OLD SPARK PLUG WIRES IS REMOVED THE WIRES WILL BREAK INSIDE PLUG BOOT CAUSING SPARK PLUG NOT TO FIRE.REPLACE SPARK PLUG WIRES.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, CHANGE AIR FILTER,CHECK ALL VACUUM HOSES ON THE INTAKE MANIFOLD LOOKING FOR INTAKE VACUUM LEAKS.
I would take the vehicle to your local autozone and have the codes checked and that can tell you with a lot more accuracy what the issue is. Thanks, Lee
Check your vacuum lines near your intake. Usually with bogging in gears would be a bad front o2 sensor. When was the last time you got a tune up? Spark plugs, wires, fuel filter. Not being up to date on those can cause the car to lose performance.
If after your replacement of parts and still getting the problem you described, I would have the coil checked. Also off hand I would check fuel pressure to make sure fuel filter is not going bad. Low fuel pressure will make it lag due to more air in system before fuel catches up. Just a thought. Good luck and have a great day.
