Mini convertible top trouble

I guess the last time I closed the top, I didn't notice that only one latch thing went into the slot.  The other is jammed, and the top managed to close, but not only the sun roof works, and no motor sound when I try to open up the top.  Is there any way to manually open it, or move it?

That's sucks. My boyfriend and I have an engineering friend, and he said he'd take a look at it. I hope hope hope that we don't have to pay that much to get it fixed.

dealer said the cable broke. It apparently happens all the time. Typical BMW type flaw they never will admit. Anyway, $1800 + tax to repair.

P.S. if you have one of your rear windows break its $1000. to fix. Sell your MINI now before word gets around how expensive they are to own.

ECS Tuning has the part WELL BELOW what the dealer will charge.

The dealer was charging $921.00 for the part alone + 5 hours of labor.

I paid $272.44 for the part & I am doing the repairs myself this weekend. I am positng the results on NAM when completed.

Here is a link to the part if any one is interested.

The link below shows a picture of the roof dismantled. The part ordered was number 14.

Reattaching (barrel on end of cable is not in slot on lever) right rear convertible top cable on 2008 min cooper

I have owned a convertible, and installed a new top, so that's my qualifications for answering your question. I would release the windshield latches, and start the top toward the down position slightly. Lightly pushing back at the front edge of the top between the windshield and top should loosen up the cable enough to get it back in the slot. I would put a dab of epoxy on the cable end to keep it in the slot. The cable has probably stretched enough to allow it to come out. There may be a cable tension adjustment at the other end of the cable if you can follow that back and find it.

I use the convertible top on my 2005 Mini Cooper S CONSTANTLY with no problem. HOWEVER today when I got in the car and held the button down, it went back in the sunroof position, I held it again, the...

BMW while truly an innovator. Also designs some of the most complicated electrical systems imaginable!! What worked for me was essentially a master reset. Now I didn't have the convertible, but I imagine the principle still applies. Try disconnecting the positive battery lead for about 20-30 seconds. this should do a "reboot" of your car's OS. Hopefully reverting to factory settings for all functions, including the programing for the top.
Good luck,

2007 Mini Cooper Convertible top doesn't open all the way when I push the button.

The top down function is a two step process...1- hold button until sunroof is all the way open then release button. 2- Press and hold button again until top goes all the way down.

If you try this and it still doesn't work , note the light on the button. If it's flashing it indicates a fault... most likely an obstruction. Check that latches on rear cargo shelf are firmly latched. Check that parcel shelf is firmly down. (open and firmly close all three of these things and try again)

cheers

I just went through HELL because my top would not go down! I did EVERY possible solution with NO AVAIL! So anyway, Im in the trunk and noticed a baggy sack hanging in the trunk.. So I figured it was for the roof.. Anyway the sack has 2 straps to hold it up for more room when the top is UP. So I said "I Wonder...." I released the straps and the bag hung again, and GUESS WHAT?
