As I was driving my car this AM it kept stalling, acting as if it wanted to die. Gas gauge went crazy (up and down). Car kept running but it acted as if it was losing power.
You have a fuel pump problem it was shorting for some reason hence the gauge going crazy from the float circuit being shorted. your fuel pump is on it's last leg have it replace this will solve the problem. please rate this

Classic signs of alternator failure..... Have charging system tested if you want further closure. Doubtful any other problems associated with this. Make sure battery has full charge
need to check the idle/air control valve.the valve gets sludged with oily tarnish and moves slowly and can'y keep the car idling properly. may also want to clean the throttle plate , it too can be sludged with the same tarnish limiting the air flow.
Could be another problem. It`s just a coinicidince that the car started stalling. You could by gas at any gas station for this car. It could be cheap gas from a no name station, and the octane level would`t matter. I would be more concerned if he was driving a high end car like Jaguar, Mercedes, Porshe. etc.etc. -where you need a cetain level of octane. Have your son`s car checked by your service shop to narrow down the stalling problem..
Possible stalling conditions--lack of tune-up, vacuum leaks, ignition problems, fuel pressure. These are possible problems just to name a few. Have the car diagnosed..
Yes, the chip in the key is not programmed to the computer for some reason. May have to take to dealer to fix this problem. The anti theft light coming on is a bad sign, where, for security reasons, if the key doesn't match up with what the antitheft computer expects, then the car's engine shouldn't work.
Change the fuel filter. It is usually located passenger side along the frame rail ahead of the rear tire. You're right, it's starving for gas & because of this your fuel line is heating up & causing vapor lock. This is why your car won't start when hot. Good luck!
mcdevito75 here, Sounds like the idle speed motor, Ford is known for these idle speed motors going bad, in the later stages the car races like crazy. have your repair shop check this idle speed motor and change it.
It sounds like the same thing that happened to my sons car. He was driving home from school and it just died on him. It acted like it wanted to start but would not. He replaced the ignition module and now it starts. He was gotting power from the coil to the distributor, but not from the distributor. Good luck
