Fuel code 17 on a 1990 Jaguar XJ6 - what does it mean?

Yesterday the car started, then immediately died, but then started again and ran. This morning it did the same thing, but on the way home from town it died and we had to have it towed home. I checked the code and it says PAO and then said Fuel 17. What does that mean?

That code 17 is for the throttle position sensor located on the bottom of the throttle body. This code is caused 99% of the time caused by a bad sensor. Here's how to test it. Go to the sensor connector and make sure you have 5 volts on pin 2 pink/purple and a ground on pin 1 black/yellow. Then go to pin 3 green/yellow and you should read about .80 volts and it should increase to about 4.90 volts. Make sure the signal does not drop out.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

SOURCE: how do i tow a 1984 jaguar xj6

The safest way to tow your vehicle would be on a flat car hauler. They are available from your local U-Haul, Penske, or Hertz rental company. If you don't feel comfortable trying this yourself, call your local Wrecker service and request a flatbed or roll-off tow truck. If you have a AAA membership you can just call them and they will make the arrangements for you. If you don't have a membership, call your auto insurance company to see if you have towing coverage and what the limits are. Towing your vehicle by any other method could be detrimental to your transmission.
