It is important that you make sure the compressor is disconnected and that there is no power going to the suspension control module. (This is something that the mechanic who did the spring conversion for you should have done but CHECK FOR YOURSELF.)
Once you have made sure that the compressor is disconnected and the leveling system computer has been disabled, SIMPLY REMOVE THE LIGHT BULB.
Hi , on this model x5 it may be worth having the ride height set correctly before thinking that there could be a problem , this can only be done at a bmw dealer , regards mark.
possibly faulty airmatic pump for suspension, first open boot and boot floor mat then have look on spare wheel, you can see your tools extra fuses and fuse diagram on it, take fuse diagram and read it you can find what's the fuse no and fuse box where is the airmatic pump fuse and relay is, check fuse and relay first, if the fuse blown replace same fuse for that now you know where are the extra fuses, get one from that, start engine is the car not rise up operate the switch above the radio still not working either faulty airmatic pump or control unit, you can check pump yourself turn steering fully left, remove clips from bulkhead inside wheel arch only need to remove front section then have a good look inside you can see airmatic pump is hanging on chassis rail under the right head light, have a good look wires on pump if it dried and broken that's the fault, only solution either repair pump or replace new pump. if not the faulty pump you have to get diagnose the car by experience technician, is this information helped you?
I WOULD LOOK AT THE SHOCKS FIRST 97 IS REALY OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE SPRING PROBLEMS LIKE THAT UNLSEE THE VENICLE HAS BEEN GROSSLY OVER LOADED OR TAKEN OFF ROAD AND BEEN DRIVEN HARD A LOT
Sounds like you may have a leak in the airmatic suspension struts on the rear. These govern the height of the car in different modes. Not an immediate problem unless you are loosing a visible amount of fluid but it will only get worse.
To check if you have airmatic you will have buttons just behind the gear lever which can be used to put the car in to a stiffer, lower mode or to raise it for rough ground
Assuming you buy the same size tire, or something close (which Walmart can help you with) no its not a bad idea. Walmart is a good place to get a set of tires at. Even better you can get some shopping done while you wait! Thanks for using FixYa!
