2008 grand prix cut off while driving. Hesitated to start back up but it did. Now it runs very rough and there was a burning smell coming from under the hood. Check engine light came on after all of this happened not before. What could be the problem? 1 person has mentioned that 1 of the spark plugs may be burnt out...

SOURCE: Engine running really rough...whine sound when it isn't.

The run rough problem is due a cyl.mis firing,it becaused buy a bad plug, plug wire, coil,or even the ing.module. the servive eng.light flashing is warning you that you have a cyl.misfire that can cause damaget to your catltic converter if you continue to drive it.with may lead to why you think you have a exhaust problem,it may be colgged.

SOURCE: 2002 grand prix

It was the Cat. Converter on mine, Don't drive it like that too long as it will send exhaust back through the EGR Valve and burn a hole in the Intake Plenum....

SOURCE: 2002 grand prix runs rough, dies service engine

sounds like you have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses and replace any broken or kinked ones, also check around the intake manifold gasket for leaks. any air leaks after the air flow meter creates 'un-metered' air which inturn will make the car run rough and stall, hope this helps

Burning smell in 97 grand prix

I suspect these problems are unrelated.

Braking shake is usually caused by warped rotors or drums. A brake shop can machine or replace these.

A burning smell is most commonly caused when a drip from an oil leak hits the hot exhaust system. It does not need much to smell terrible. You will see brown or black stains on the exhaust somewhere.

Grand prix has a 3.1 6cyl. and 166000 mile, it blow white smoke

Sorry to inform you of the bad news but the white smoke is engine coolant burning off and the rough running condition is also associated with coolant leaking into the combustion chambers. This will be a head gasket repair, basically a head job where you will need to machine the heads down and install new gaskets from the heads up.Get back to me if you have any more questions, thanks and I hope I could help!!!

I have a 94 grand prix se 3.1. When i first start it ir smells like gas. It goes away and then comes back at red lights..... I cant find any leaks... Any ideas?

It may be the fuel pressure regulator located on the fuel rail on top of the motor it leaches out a very small amount of gas when they start to go inspect it if it looks even a little bit wet replace it, if this is not wet then the gas cap may not be venting properly replace it.

Engine falls below 500rpm lights dim and engine stalls out

I had a bad air conditioner compressor that caused this same problem. It had almost completley seized and gave the car some real trouble starting. The burning smell I had was caused from the belt rubbing around the seized pully.
