1998 town n country alarm/ start problems

Is your fix still working for you? And....you talked about the cluster...is there more than one. I have not yet taken the plunge into the dash. Is it the gauge cluster, or is it the assembly with the "alarm set" light in it??? Chip

I have the same problem with my alarm system. Sometimes it starts and runs just fine. Then when I'm sixty miles from home it decides it is not going to start, and this is without using the remote. I tried diconnecting the battery for five minutes, and not using the remote. The only way to get it running again is to let it sit overnight, then it starts. I can't live like that and I wouldn't sell it to anyone with this problem. HELP!!!

This may or may not help. Hopefully it will. We recently purchased this 1998 chrysler town & country. Everything was working fine, started fine, etc. we took it to get emissions done.....passed emissions.. .made it home. i turned the car off to run inside for a minute. came back out car started.. ran for 3 seconds than died out. tried again... ran for 3 seconds than died out... after that it no longer would do anything. all the lights worked except in the ignition module. the top dashboard lights worked though. I then noticed that the "alarm set" light stayed lit. after replacing fuses and running an OBD test and found no trouble codes or issues with fuses it dawned on me it may be the alarm. after searching the internet for hours i found a forum that suggested unplugging the battery for about 5 minutes....rehook it and then try starting it again. well i tried doing that the first time using the REMOTE to unlock the doors and nothing happened. i locked the doors and repeated the same battery unhook-rehook process except without using the remote... (i noticed a lot of forums saying that the remotes can be deffective in that they somehow trigger the alarm if the transmitter is not working properly)... so after unhooking and rehooking the battery and using only the key to unlock it started right up! so i've decided to not use the remote at all and have had no other problems. let me know if this helps

1998 chrysler t & c van. can start the van drive it, then gauges stop, suddenly sometimes

The problem is your instrument cluster. Your type of vehicle is notorious for the instrument cluster failing. It will need replaced, or rebuilt.

I am stuck! The alarm system in my 1998 Chrysler Town and Country LXI will allow the engine to start and run for 2 seconds and then die. It has done so a few times now it won't attempt to turn over. ...

I recently had the same issue and I have had four - five "expert mechanics" looking into the issue. I took it upon myself to find the correct answer. The problem is NOT the alarm system , the problem is with your instrument cluster. On the back of your instument clusters circuit board there are a number of soldered pins, if you look at them very carefully with a magnifing glass you will notice that one of those soldered connections will have a tiny crack in it. This needs to be resoldered and then you will not have any more problems. It will take you about 45 min.-- to an hour to take it apart (as long as you know how to turn a screwdriver] then take the whole cluster to a Radio or T.V. repair shop and have them resolder the connction. Trust me it worked for me after spending close to a grand with towing and mechanic bills.

Chrysler town and country guages will not work and car will not start. Electric windows and lights work. Car starts just for a moment and then shuts off. Guages do not come on when car starts just for that...

I've had the same problem. From what I've been able to find, there is bad connection on a computer chip behind the dashboard - as crazy as this sounds, the quick fix is to hit the dash on to the left of the steering wheel pretty hard. You may notice that when you have tis problem, the display lights below the speedo and tach are out - after you've whacked the dash and the lights come on, you know that you have "fixed" the problem.

My car alarm will not reset and the issue with problems below

If you (hopefully) have the key fob (keyless entry remote), try closing the doors, then lock and unlock using the keyless entry. This should reset the security so the vehicle will start.

Instrumental panel not working

the car will needs to be hooked up to a scan tool to check the dash cluster communication on the cars computer bus . see, the dash cluster now is another computer itself that must talk to the body and the main engine computer via the bus comm. line.

1998 town & country. It won't start again.

We had the same problem. It was the circuit board in the dash. There were crackes in one of the solder spots. My mechanic removed the dash and did a spot solder on the place with the cracks. It has worked for two months. It seems the solder spot was with a too cool of a solder when it was manufactured. Do it yourself or get your mechanic to fix the probem.
