Transmission issues 2003 Olds Silhouette

"Drive" cannot be used from "Park". I can, however, go to 1st gear, get it up to 20mph, go to 2nd gear, get it up to 40mph then into 3rd gear up to 55mph. Reverse also works fine. Oil looks red, clean, no burnt smell. I'm a girl & no next to nothing about car repair so of course I feel like I am going to get a huge bill for something that might be an inexpensive fix. Does anyone have any ideas? Or reliable places to take the van to? I'm in Minnesota.

SOURCE: speedometer out of calibration by 20mph at 55mph.

It's a cable. If the car doesn't have the same size tires that it came with from the factory, the speedometer will be off. The only way to calibrate it would be to change the the cable drive gears in the transmission, but I have no idea what the gear ratio would be or where you would get the gears. That car came with either P215/75R14 or P205/75R15 tires.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 olds silhouette that won't move in drive

Had the same problem - 1st gear worn out. You'll need a ****** rebuild.
Was told its not unusual for that GM trans.

2003 chevrolet cavalier, manual transmission lost 2nd, 4th and reverse but still has 1st, 3rd and 5th gears.

Sounds like one of the levers inside the transmission is either broken or otherwise disengaged. Remove the shifter to see if you can see any obvious reason.

2003 olds shoulette won't shift to 3rd or drive

Check your transmission fluid. If it is anything but a nice, clear, red colour and/or if it smells burnt, the first thing to do is change the transmission oil and filter. It is amazing how often this clears up an automatic transmission. After that, it can get expensive, unfortunately.

theres park neutral @ 1 @ 2 @ drive 1st gear is used for snow coverd roads @ bad weather situations just like 2nd gear it holds car back from going so fast and gives you more reaction time best ONLY to use during bad weather though.good luck hope this help!!!

2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Parked van went into gear on own

Please have a dealership that handles GM vehicles check to see if your vehicle was involved in what the trade considers a run away transmission condition involving the automatic transmissions parking pall linkage defecting thus allowing the transmission to go into drive while the vehicle is idling in park.
