The liftgate only opens with button on keyfob. Is it the touchpad sensor or the touchpad that needs replaced?

I can unlock it with the keyfob button but can't unlock it any other way. I am supposed to be able to touch the touchpad and open it after I have unlocked all the doors. For some reason the only way I can open it is to hit the rear button on the transponder and then pull it open.

I recently tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped me repair transmission problem in my jcb 3cx site-master. It would'nt move forward or reverse, engine was good both solenoids for forward and reverse worked, but still couldn't diagnose the problem.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and now it works perfect! covers wiring, codes, diagrams, torque specs, PCV, everything
got it from www.reliable-store.com

Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation (Rendezvous)
The liftgate can be locked and unlocked by pressing the door lock switch on the front driver or passenger doors or by pressing the REAR button on the key fob. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the liftgate actuator when an unlock input is received through the key fob, or the door lock switch. The liftgate may then be released by pressing the liftgate release touchpad located on the inner side of the liftgate handle.

Check LGATE fuse #13 20 amp fuse box center console .

Circuit/System Testing
Liftgate Release Switch Malfunction
Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector C1 at the Liftgate Release switch.
Ignition OFF, test for less than 1.0 ohm for resistance between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
? If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Liftgate Release is Inactive.
? If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal D for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal D and ground. Verify the scan tool Liftgate Release is Active.
? If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the Liftgate Release switch.

The rear door want open on my 2005 Lincoln navigater the button up by rear view mirror is broken and the button under the handle on the door want do any thing

Does it have a power lift gate ? Do you know anything about automotive electrical systems ? How to use a wiring diagram along with a digital volt ohmmeter to test electrical circuits . ?
Power Liftgate
The power liftgate feature will allow the customer to automatically open or close the liftgate by activating the interior open/close switch, the remote keyless entry transmitter, or by manually initiating liftgate movement. The power liftgate uses a power cinch system to latch the liftgate.
The power liftgate system consists of:
  • Power liftgate control switch (located in the overhead console)
  • Power liftgate motors (located in the rear headliner area)
  • Optical sensor and power liftgate encoder wheel (located in the left power liftgate motor assembly)
  • Pinch strip switches (located on the body by the liftgate)
  • Home position switch (located on the cinch actuator)
  • Forkbolt switch (located on the cinching latch assembly)
  • Detent switch (located on the cinching latch assembly)
  • Liftgate close chime module (located in a unit external from the power liftgate module)
The forkbolt and detent switch are located on the cinch latch assembly and the home position switch is located on the cinch actuator assembly. For information on removal of the latch or cinch actuator assembly, refer to Section 501-14 .
The power liftgate may not operate under the following conditions:
  • a low voltage or dead battery.
  • a disconnected battery.
  • a power liftgate that has been left open for more than six hours.
  • a power liftgate that has been manually closed and left ajar.
If any of these conditions has occurred, the power liftgate must be reset before performing any pinpoint tests. For additional information, refer to Power Liftgate Initialization .

Power Liftgate Initialization NOTE: If the power liftgate system is turned OFF in the message center, the system cannot be activated with any switches or with the liftgate handle. The system will need to be turned ON for any power operation to occur.
NOTE: The power liftgate may not operate under the following conditions:
  • a low voltage or dead battery.
  • a disconnected battery
  • a power liftgate that has been left open for more than six hours.
  • a power liftgate that has been manually closed and left ajar.
If any of these conditions has occurred, the power liftgate must be reset.
  1. Manually close and fully latch the power liftgate.
  1. NOTE: If the power liftgate does not open during this step, refer to the symptom chart to diagnose the power liftgate for no operation. Power open the power liftgate by using the keyfob or overhead console switch.

It looks like that your 'closed door' sensor is out of order or the door itself doesn't reach it far enough. put something sticky on the tip of sensor and try again.

How do you open the rear door wont work with the outside button

Hi, viewers. The liftgate latch of 2008 Acadia is electrically controlled by switches, fuses, modules, and sensors. If for some reason the liftgate doesnt seem to open under the normal operating conditions, you can still open it mechanically if needed.

* First, go inside the vehicle and lower the 2nd and 3rd row seats, and then locate the round access plug (visible and similar to a rubber grommet) from the liftgate lower interior trim panel.

*Second, use a small flatbladed tool to remove that access plug and expose the hole.

*Third, look through the hole and push on a silver lever located on the right to unlock the liftgate.

*Fourth, when unlocked, push the liftgate outward or, you may need an assistant to pull open the liftgate from the outside handle while you push the unlock lever.

Once opened, you can now reflect back as to why your liftgate wont function. I hope you get lucky in your quest. Have a nice day! : )
