Fog lights out on 2001 passat.

Had the dimmer switch for console lights replaced twice. after it was replaced the first time it went out again about a week later, and now lower left brake light, front left turn signal, front right daytime running light, and both fog lights. could this all be related?
i've replaced bulb on brake light. fixed it. gonna replace turn signal bulb. and running light on order. but with both of the fog lights out at same time, could it be a fuse or just unfortunate coincidence?

The only way a lot of bulbs can burn out at once is overvoltage. Check your charging voltage with the car running, using a multimeter. Should be 13.8 volts; with the car off, about 12.6.

I can not tell you how much you should get a steering column place to repair that. Trust me, you don't want to go there. That is one thing is not worth doing yourself.

First check that you dont have a blown fuse as it is VERY uncomon to have TWO lights blown out at the same time. also the switch will cost you tons of money AND be a pain to replace for a novice so ALWAYS start small and go from there as for the cruise take it to any dealership and have them show you as im not farmilliar with the exact posisitioning of the hardware on your aplication.

Dimmer switch

you could always add a good pair of aftermarket fog lights that come with a relay kit and switch you mount to the dash .The only thing is by most laws you cannot run high beams w/aftermarket fog lights on at the same time only low beam ,they have to be manually turned off for oncoming traffic. You can get a good set for around $65.00.These kits come with easy instructions.

If you already have the switch out, go ahead and replace it. the carbon brush that changes the resistance for dimming is old (1997). Test by one lead on your meter to the brush. The other lead to the large terminal on the rheostat coil. Rotate the shaft to see if resistance varies.

The blinking arrow is an indicator that the automatic transmission is in the limp mode. Sometimes this problem will go away. Other times you must take it in and have the error code on the transmission read. This will explain what is causing the transmission to go into the limp mode. The limp mode is the same as the WINTER mode where it starts in 3rd gear.
The dash board gauges are controlled by a dimmer switch that is above the rear fog light switch which is above the headlight switch. If this dimmer switch doesn't work, then have it replaced.
