1996 cherokee Country Wagon

Have replaced computer, fuel pump, fuel filter, crank sensor on 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country Wagon. I have purchased a new fuel pressure regulator. Is it encased in plastic? If so how to take apart?

Hi Debra: I sugges to check this procedure...

1996 cherokee Country Wagon - 12_21_2011_5_39_12_pm.jpg

Fig. 1: TBI fuel pressure regulator

  1. Remove the throttle body assembly from the vehicle as outlined in this section.
WARNING To prevent spring pressure release, hold the regulator housing against the throttle body while removing the mounting screws.
  1. Remove the three retaining screws that hold the pressure regulator to the fuel body.
  2. Disassemble the pressure regulator assembly. Note the location of the components for reassembly. Discard the gasket.
To install:
  1. Install a new gasket and the regulator assembly. Tighten the three retaining screws.
  2. Install the throttle body assembly as outlined in this section.

WARNING The pressure regulator diaphragm MUST be installed with the vent hole aligned with the vent holes in the throttle body and regulator housing!

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Does the vehicle have spark ? If it does it is not the crank sensor . The ignition switch supplys power for the fuel pump relay directly ,ASD has nothing to do with it . The PCM - engine computer energizes the fuel pump relay by supplying a ground - if it see's a crankshaft postion sensor signal an if no anti-theft system problems . Do you know what a wiring diagram is ? Here free one's http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html Enter vehicle info . year , make , model an engine size . Under system click on engine , then under subsystem click on fuel controls . Click the search button ,then the blue link. Third diagram down.

96 jeep cherokee stopped running was going 45mph then died . was told it was the crank censon is this right?

Could be the crankshaft sensor, if your not getting spark to the spark plug wire's, could also be fuel pump if you are getting spark to plugs.

My Jeep keeps cutting out at any random moment,

you may need a new fuel filter, also check the fuel pump.if there are no codes then its probably the filter.

Suspect fuel pressure. You could install a fuel pressure guage. There is always a fuel pump cutoff safety switch. It is either in oil pressure switch or alternator connection. But have you changed the fuel filter?
