4x4 shifter will shift into all gears correctly. however the 4x4 light is always on (but no ABS light) and the shifter is very loose. when i put it in 4H it feels as if the shifter is in the neutral position, but everything still works properly. I would just like to know what to do to get the shifter to actually lock in. Or is it actually supposed to feel like that?

Bad 4wd position sensor located on transfer case or bad sensor located on right front axle housing for 4wd engagement position.

The switch for the 4wd light is on top of the transfer case. It is probably sticking

It seems to be stuck in 4x4 still. There could be damaged done to the powertrain by the towing company. Therefore they should be held accountable for the damage and repair that will be needed. You never tow a vehicle in 4x4 it should be carried on a flat-back. Same with AWD vehicles. The towing companies are well aware of this, is their business to know. Make sure to disengage the 4x4, put the 4x4 shifter on the floor in neutral while in park or not moving. If you continue to have problems contact the towing company and hold them accountable for it. See what you can work out with them. If they tell you they are not responsible then contact a lawyer and make them responsible for it.

Hi, you will probably have to take to mitsubishi dealer and have them scan diagnostics....but sounds like the o ring has busted in transfer case. will it shift in and out of 4wheel drive? If not don't drive it...it will cause alot of damage.

The 4WD center diff light will flash when there is a vacuum malfunction in the front axle activating solenoid.
If this is happening, you likely have a bad Freewheel solenoid pack, they fail very regularly due to their location. Is is located on the passenger side fenderwell below the airbox; it is a pack of two solenoids with 6 hoses coming off of it.
