When i try to start the car it will not engage the starter, I have tried to reset the immobilizer with the Drivers door for the required 30 Secs. each way Lock/Unlock.. The window doesn't respond n the car still will not start. The car is missing the Passengers side door Handle n lock,Just wondering if that could have anything to do with it. I have tried 4-5 different methods People have told me but nothing seems to work.. I have started the car by crossing the Solenoid, But it stalls within 5 Secs.
SOURCE: alarm system won't reset, car won't start
The alarm system just blows on these cars, its a fact.
I never use the key in the trunk because it will trigger the alarm.
I had some trouble with the alarm, and found out it was something to do with the cigarette lighter/cell phone charger connection. I simply don't use that anymore either. When the alarm triggers, and you cant turn it off with the key, it must be a fuse. The alarm will beep an annoying beep for 4 min, in that time i will disconnect the battery cable, find the blown fuse underneath the dash, replace it, and then reconnect the battery, at which time you will have to put your key in the door and disengage the alarm again, and breathe a sigh of relief. Keep a bunch of 15 or 20 amp fuses around and a 10 millimeter wrench or whatever for the battery terminal.
Good luck.
SOURCE: Driver side door lock stopped working
sounds like the lock motor is locked up or probably broken connectors yo have to open the door panel to check this out.
SOURCE: 1998 Jetta Passenger Door Won't Unlock
I had a similar problem with my son's 1998 Jetta K2 4 door. I sprayed loads of WD40 into the locking area from the end of the door through the clip slot, worked the mechanism sprayed some more and finally it start working. My mechanic said these are very prone to moisture causing rusting on the moving parts.
SOURCE: key will not go into ignition, drivers door lock stopped working
I had the problem with key not going into the ignition on 2005.5 Jetta had to have the car towed and ignition replaced which cost 375$. But what i read afterwards is there is a locking mechanism in the ignition it is a white thing that slides so you cant get your key in this can be moved with a a small aharp object ant you can then get your key in!!!
