Hi,
My car has been sitting in my garage for the last few weeks, becuase I am trying to sell it. Recently, 3 months ago, I had the timing belt changed.
Yesterday, I started my car to let it run a little. when I shut it off I saw smoke coming from the engine. On the drivers side of the engine. I noticed engine oil leaking up by the upper bolts.
The car isn't smoking out of the exaust. I am concerned, because it has just been sitting there.
Sounds like a leaking valve cover gasket. The parts are around $50 to do both cylinder heads from www.ecstuning.com. It's not a major issue, but it may be a sore point to a potential buyer.
Nope, they're separate. They may have changed the cam seals, but the valve cover gaskets are separate. Which engine do you have? I can describe it better if I know that.
OK, same engine as in my A4. Under the hood, you have the "beauty covers" - the two on the sides that have the "5V" badges on them? They are screwed onto the valve covers. Take them off and the metal pieces there are the valve covers. The gaskets are where the covers attach to the cylinder heads. The small bolts along the lower edge of the valve covers - is that where you're seeing the leakage? If so, you need valve cover gaskets. If not, please describe where you're seeing the oil and we'll figure out what you are dealing with.

Thank you. Is this in the same area as the timing belt? Or is that in a totally different part of the engine? If so, wouldn't they change those when the do the timing belt job?

it's a 2.8
I usually bring my Audi A4 Quatro to the dealership but recently brought my Audi for an oil change to another place of business. I recieved a call from the mechanic and was told the valve cover gasket was leaking and needed to be replaced. I told the mechanic I would bring my car to the dealership and have them look at the issue. When I woke up the following day there was an puddle of oil under my car. I have never had oil leaking from my vechicle and it only has 50,000 miles on it. Is this a normal problem, is it possible that the mechanic caused this issue, and how much damage to my wallet am I looking at?
Thanks!!!
I have oil leaking from below the valve cover gasket on the drivers side? Gives a bad smell and is leaking alot of oil....Any ideas?
