Coolant capacity I am looking for the engine coolant capacity for a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup with the cummins engine. It has a 5 speed manual tranny if it makes a difference. It's time to flush the radiator!

This mainly is caused by transmission fluid level changes. Measure it when its at running temperature and in park. Add if necessary (most likely the cause)
Well, first do the service. Pull the pan down and look for metal shavings. If there is metal shavings your in for a transmission. If not, you may have a problem with one of the transmissions shift solenoids located near the valve body.
P.S. The Duramax has the Allison 1000 transmission not the dodge cummins and they are one of the best trannys on the market.

When considering the maximum towing capacity, you also have to consider passenger weight, luggage, etc as all this will reduce the overall capacity... I.e. if you've got 1000lbs in the trunk and 3 passengers plus the driver, your capacity has already dropped to around 12,000
