Lights that wont go away: Trac Off, ABS, Oil Change, Service Vehicle soon

I just bought the 2001 grand am GT about a month ago, and today as I was driving, The traction Off, ABS, Oil Change, and service vehicle soon lights came on. I turned off the car, and when I started it again, the lights would just stay on. Any ideas on what this could be?

My abs trac off and service vehicle soon light are on. In the mornin when i start it they wont be on but as soon as I turn the steering wheel they come right on. My mechanic told me they replaced a bearing of some sort on the front and the aftermarket part has a censor sending a bad signal but it will be ok. If so how will i get the lights out?

I have this same problem with my 2000 Grand Am and the mechanic that I had taken it to had told me it was from a bad ABS sensor in a wheel hub, in order to fix that I would need to purchase a new hub. He said that triggered the service vehicle soon light and had caused the ABS light to come on as well. Although I have not fixed it yet, I trust that this is the problem.

Sorry tina , but you are going to need a new "cluster assembly" most likely. The cluster assembly is the dash instrument panel with all the gauges behind the clear lens. As an ex-pontiac technician of 13 years , pretty much every one of these with more than one light remaining on after start-up is going to need an "exchange" cluster. What the G.M. dealer does is removes the cluster from the car and "swaps" it with another one that has been refurbished-not always do they have a local authorized repair source though. I know the going exchange rate on these units is about $250.00. Hopefully they don't mark it up too much from there. I recommend you have it professionally checked out and diagnosed as you could also have an ABS code which could illuminate the trac off , abs light and check engine light simultaneously. Good luck..............Scott

SOURCE: abs light, trac light, service engine soon light 2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.

Trac off light on

What kind of scanner are you using. that is a CAN vehicle and not just any OBDII scanner will work to read abs codes. Go to an Oreillys Auto Parts store and get the ABS codes read and message me back with the codes and I will be happy to help.

Oil, trac off, service vehicle soon, and abs lights are on. I had the oil changed and the brakes done. why are these lights still on?

This looks like a failed or faulty connection to the speedometer/ cluster. Try removing the cluster and reinstalling. Sometimes the connections become loose for vibration and simply need reseated.

I have a 1999 pontiac grand am I purchased from an auction my senior year of high school. a 2 months after I bought it the change oil light came on and has never gone off. in the three years that I've had...

The change oil light must be reset by you manually. Procedure listed in your owner's manual. The ABS light is on because there is a problem with the Anti-Lock brake system. Normal braking will still work. This needs to be looked at by a professional The Trac Off light is on because the Traction Control is turned off. Turn it back on. There is a button somewhere to turn it on and off. Maybe be on the shifter. The Service Engine light is on because there is a problem with the emissions control system. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scan tool to recover the fault code. This code will help to diagnose the problem.

Abs and trac control lights are on

It is one of your wheel bearings. The problem is easily solved by taking the car to a dealer, or having a code reader, and determining which wheel bearing is bad. The wheel bearing is under $150 and should be installed by someone with some muscle, as the bolts are torqued from the factory extremely tight in a tight location. The wheel bearing have all of your sensors for abs built into them and if that sensor goes out your computer tells the abs and traction control to shut down, hence you get the lights on on the dash.

1999 Pontiac Grand Prix lights are staying on

what is the procedure you are using can you explain it to me?
Resetting Procedure

To reset the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator if equipped with the Driver Information Center (DIC).

  1. Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
  2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
    • If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator flashes two times, the system is resetting. Turn the ignition key to OFF then start the vehicle.
    • If the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator comes on and stays on, repeat the procedure.
To reset the OIL LIFE indicator if equipped with a Trip Computer.

  1. Press the trip MODE button until the light appears next to OIL LIFE.
  2. Press and hold the trip RESET button until the oil life percentage changes to 100%.
Hope this helps Ill look into the ABS lights but I do believe that you will need a scan tool to retreive a code to be able to diagnose the reason for the lights
