Sounds like the battery is bad. Have a parts house check it. That could solve your shifting problem

SOURCE: dead battery?

could be several things, like bad alternator relay, bad alternator, voltage regulator. have a qualified tech look at it.

SOURCE: 2001 tahoe will not shift from second gear

this is known as "limp mode"

there should be a fuse in the dashboard fuse panel, or possibly the one under the hood.. one will be labeled trans or tcm - something of the like...test ALL fuses in the fuse boxes for good measure, and change the fuses if you find any blown.

ALSO....

Did you recently have a remote start system installed? If so, they need to hook up the smaller white wire in the ignition harness to turn on with the ignition power from the remote start unit. If the ignition wire and the white wire (transmission control) are not powered at the same time, the trans will go into limp mode.

SOURCE: 2001 checy Tahoe wont stay running for more then 10 seconds?

If its been a while sense you have chg. fuel filter,DO IT, If still does the same after that, do fuel pressure test, fuel pump might be on its way out. $$$$$. If pump and filter chks. out ok, than maybe its fuel regulator. My best guess its either filter or pump.

First try extracting the codes from the ECM using an OBDII code reader. The codes will likely point towards your problem.

1995 chevy regular cab 4.3l v6 2wd wont go into overdrive

Sounds like it is stuck in second gear. Overdrive only drops rpm by a couple hundred. In third gears you should still be less than 3,000 rpm.

Second gear is a default gear when the transmission is in limp mode. Is the check engine light on? Does it shift if you manual shift through the gears with the gear selector?

My 1995 Chevy Tahoe won't shift gears as I'm

Probably the speed sensor on the transmission. It would cause both problems. You should also have a check engine light with a trouble code for the sensor.

98 tahoe put in rebuilt trans. now wont start or even crank

Adjust the gear shift cable so that the park position sensor will move to the right position then it will crank. Right now it thinks it is engaged in some gear.

Check engine light comes on truck barely runs, wont shift into 4 gear. unhooked battery to reset computer, ran 1/8 mile great, then went back to barely running.

you need to check the codes with an OBD 2 reader.
once you get the codes that will steer you in right direction.

What is the switch for in the lower left side of the dash on my 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix, it's labeled, start in second gear

with switch on, the transmission will not shift into 1st gear--it will start in second and then shift to third, etc.. This is OK for normal driving, but not if you start on hills or want to accelerate quickly from a stop.

1995 crown vic gear problems/gear shift wont lock

most likely the shift tube bushings are bad- you may have also lost a few screws in the shift tube or they could just be loose. you have to pull the steernig column down to inspect/repair it.

Sounds like you may have smoked high gear clutches. Check your fluid and see if the color is darker than normal and smells burnt...

1995 crown vic gear problems/gear shift wont lock

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.
