I would start with the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. The IAC valve usually, USUALLY, trips the Check Engine Light, but, sometimes may not.

Aside from that, it could be other issues: spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor components/assembly, etc.

BTW, is the Check Engine Light on?

2007 F150 5.4 King Cab Rear Windows

Hello Wayne; Focus on the grounding of the cab to chasis. The cab is mounted on rubber pods so direct grounding through a mounting bolt is sketchy.. Motors require a very good ground or the connection will build corrosion and compromise itself. There is a ground strap from engine to cab under the hood. This little strap is primarily for static as the vehicle is driven. It stll should be tight and clean. The grounds that need removal, cleaning and reinstall should be two cables on bolts. The first is the battery negative cable. It is fastened to the engine. The second is a cable or braided strap fastened to the engine and other end to the frame. Chk around the motor mounts. I've found braided grnd straps at those locations. Good Luck and I hope this helped -Ned

Broken ground strap problems

I suggest you make a replacement using a good quality heavy duty cable if it is the cause of your problem it should rectify itself quickly after figment. Try to copy the original as closely as possible, and after figment give the ends a coating of vaseline

Does a 97 dodge ram 1500 have an engine to firewall ground strap and if so can you describe the whereabouts?

My '97 with the 5.9L gas engine does not. It's grounded from the battery to the frame and a ground strap ran from a bolt under the exhaust manifold on the passenger side(near the oil filter) to the frame

Stumbles while cruising or in light pull--dies at idle. Runs good at RPM above 2,500.

I AM LOOKING AT IDLE SPEED TOO LOW OR EGR VALVE LEAKING STICKING OPEN.

1997 Nissan pickup seems to be flooding with rough idle & black smoke. Techs troubleshooting computer is not picking up engine computer.

If his scanner won't pick up the computer then the fuse may be blown for the computer or the DLC data link connector fuse may be bad it has two. If the DLC is dead test the three fuses in the cab and the one in the engine compartment on passenger side. if still no Data then you have a bigger problem. The 97 98 changed and They had some problems with the harness Where the plug goes into the fuse inside the cab to the computer.

97 maxima rough idling

Check the tension pulley. It has an adjustment on top to set belt tension. On mine the bushing in the pulley went bad and made a rough rubbing sound. I replaced the entire unit as an assembly. Noise went away.
