2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE Logo

Wont start. Ive got a 2001 pontiac grand am 2.4. Two new coils, new ignition module, plugs, boots, and coil housing. It would start but it had a multi cylinder misfire after replacing all the parts i unhooked the batt. to reset the computer hooked it back up ten minutes later and it wouldnt start. Ive got good injecter pulse and plenty of fuel. ive just got no spark ive found that there is no power going to the ignition module or the crank sensor. ive been told it has to be the PCM and that when i unhooked it it cleared not just the codes the whole thing crashed. Thoughts anyone?

SOURCE: i have a 95 chevy 6.5l t/b diesel bringing up egr

start with the egr since it came up in multiable codes, chances are that it is not failing on account of something else like they often do... then get machanics stethascope and listen to each injector to find your flaws there. to know what one is supposed to sound like just listen to another cars first it is just a series of clicks.

Learning how to test a GM distributor less ignition system rather then guessing an replacing parts is the proper way to diagnose . Pulling a couple of pull wires of the same coil an having someone crank the engine over to see if there is spark would the first test . If there is no spark ,could be the ignition module , or the crankshaft postion sensor .

One possibility is the temp sensor,if it does know it's a cold start ,it won't have an enriched fuel mixture to start.
Change it or put on a scanner and look at the temp sensor reading when cold.

I have a 99 grand am SE 2.4 4 cylinder and my problem #2 misfire, repalced spark plugs with AC delco rapid fires, replaced coil packs, replaced coil pack housing, changed spark plug boots, had ignition...

A misfire doesn't always have to be ignition... it's just the most common cause. Faulty or plugged injector, low compression. You need to check fuel pressure and test the fuel injector flow. Then check compression. If you don't have tools for these tests, take it to someone who does. Testing is much cheaper than throwing parts at the problem.

How do I replace the ignition coil on a 6 cylinder 2001 grand am

There are two types of coil system on your Grand Am. I just can not recall which one's you have right now. There is the one that you need to replace the whole unit which controls all 6 spark plugs and the other system where there are three coils and each coil runs two spark plug. If you go to Auto Zone they can give you the right ignition coil system to the year of your car and they will have the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. The other thing to is to have the ignition module check to make sure it's working right. A bad module will also not activate some of the coils or all or them. Good luck and hope this helps.

95 pontiac grand am 2.3 wont start when warm ive replaced the coils the coil housing and the ignition module it still wont start until it sits for a few hours sometime it needs to sit over night please...

It's either a cracked crank position sensor, or the starter. Start by removing the crank position sensor and checking it. It is located somewhere on your engine block.

96 grand prix se engine problems

Your problem may be a faulty (shorted) ignition coil housing assembly (the white plastic cover housing the coils its bolted to the aluminum cover) change that along with the spark plug boots ( the boots are optional but I recommend it) that should get your Grand Prix running smooth. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help
