Depends on which belt... quick check is to buy a smal spray can of ''belt dressing'' at a auto parts store.... if after spraying the belts it continues, it can be a bad belt tensioning device, or bad / worn vbelts, or maybe a water pump bearing. if it is the belt to the alternator, it could be a bad bearing in the alternator, ac compressor, or even the power steering belt, tension device... a lot of variables....

My 2006 X-Terra just started to make a mild screeching noise once I begin to drive it right after the initial start-up. The noise does not appear again until I let it sit for a bit (like overnight or...

It sounds like a belt may be beginning to slip. Open the hood, take a flashlight and check all of your belts for glazing on the inside of the belt. Also check for fraying on the outside of the belt. Try to remember when you last changed your belt.

Also, after your car sat awhile, open the hood and have someone else start it while you look under the hood for a slipping belt. It helps if you have marked the belt with a red permanent market so you can see the movement of your belt.

In time, if you do nothing the screeching will get worse and start to happen more often to all the time. It may take a while before your belt finally breaks.

If it is a water pump belt, it will affect your cooling system and if it is an ac belt it will affect your ac system.

My car has a howl when its iddeling and it sounded like the powersteering pump so we replaced that but its still howling, what could it be now that it was replaced?

You might have a bad front bearing in the alternator. Or a bad water pump. I would take of the 1 belt at a time and start the car to see if the noise is still there.

Howling Sound coming from Front right wheel side

I think its a problem with your timing belt. It is too tight. Thats why it is making such a sound. Tell your mechanic to loosen it a bit.

Squeaking sound

It a particular period of time when the temperature changes and gets colder. So during the hot summer weather the belt(s) expanded. And as the weather changed and got colder the belts more likely would have the tendency to slip. There's an adjusting screw to adjust the belt tension. Hope you fix it.
