Kia Carens 2003 My car sometimes starts great, sometimes it starts but with low revs and black smoke and a buzzing noise. On longer trips it blows a lot of black smoke. I bought it recently so I don't know if this is normal or not. I took it to a garage but they could not duplicate the problem. I have replaced the fuel filter but there was no change.

Hi, This could be a turbo related problem, or at worst a broken piston or oil ring! check the turbo out 1st, as if your talking about a ring everything & engine stripped down. Please send me feedback to [email protected] Thanks Malcolm Campbell.

Have the sedona scanned at an AutoZone or similar place and ask for code. they will not tell you whats wrong with it but they will give you a code. You can go from there. You can come back and tell us what the code is .

SOURCE: 2000 kia sephia constant engine stalling!!!

try this procedure and let me know if it cures the problem.

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

and more

1. Open driver's door. Turn ignition to "ON" position.

2. Locate the programming button on wiring harness pigtail. It is behind the left side of the center console (to the right of the gas pedal). It is next to the RKE module. (feel around under the plastic wall)

3. Press and hold the programming button for 15 seconds. The horn will sound 3 times when it enters programming mode.

4. Press the lock button on the transmitter. The horn should sound once to confirm the transmitter. Repeat for any additional transmitters. You apparently can have up to 4 transmitters.

5. Turn ignition to "OFF" and test transmitters.

i would check all the basics like spark plugs and check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. With a can of 2+2 carb cleaner while engine is running --if idle goes up or down that is were your leak is--
