you have to release the tensioner as it is in neutral position what you need to do is push in on the tensioner and let go it should tighten the belyt as when you push it in past the lock you will see it come out quite a ways

Need to change timing chain on 2000 Dodge Intrepid 2.7 l. While I do that what else should I change? oil pump, water pump, etc..

These usually have timing belts, if the water pump isn't making nose, leaking or dragging, put it back on. If it does have a timing chain in it, put new timing gears and guides in it as well, easier to do while you already have it apart. Check your power steering pump to make sure it is not leaking or the bearing isn't dragging, if so replace. Replace the thermostat while you have it apart. Check all hoses and belts to see if they need to be replaced while your at it, you will have most of them off anyway. Definitely check the serpentine belt that runs everything on the front of the motor, if it is cracked or worn, replace. Better to do it now rather than along the side of the road. Hope this helps you.

2002 Intrepid: need to replace the water pump...

In the 2.7L V6, the water pump is driven by the timing chain. I'm pretty sure that in the 3.2/3.5L V6, it's driven by the timing belt. In both cases, it's a lot of work to get to, as you have to remove everything on the top (intake plenum, valve covers) and front (belts, pulleys, idlers, p/s pump, and timing cover) of the engine. Then, after removing and replacing the water pump and timing chain/belt, you have to make sure that the valve timing is exactly right, and reset the chain tensioner on the 2.7L.

A lot of work. Unless you're very comfortable with working on engines, leave it to a professional. You'll save yourself a headache (not to mention some busted knuckles). ;-)

I need a digram of how to replace the timing belt for 2002 dodge intrepid 3.5 single dual cam

Hello trimaineiman: My name is Roger and I will help you. A couple of things you should do is replace the water pump while you have the timing belt off. Should the pump fail later it will do severe engine damage to the engines valves. Next This engine is not a free wheeling engine. Should you put the belt on and the valve timing oi not correct. Severe engine damage will occur. By that I mean Valves in the head will be bent and/or piston damage will occur. Here is a picture of the marks. It is the best i could find. Good luck on your repairs. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger7ab4161.jpg
