Wheres the starter solenoid on 2002 cadillac deville dts. i turn the key and makes a cliking sound like if its a dead battery,, but i change the battery and still wont cranks unless jumped, or given a boost with another car..i guess needs extra juice.. im thinking its probably electrical, maybe a relay or something,, any help.. thanks.

It sounds like your alternator may be bad and is not charging the battery. You can get it tested at Auto Zone.

Turn on the headlights and turn the key to start if the headlights go out the battery is dead and needs to be repaired if they do not go out then you may have a starter that is locked up or a bad solenoid on the starter.

Hi Able:
"Crank" to me means turn over.
"Fire" means actually try to run.
If it won't crank and you have a new battery and starter, I'd be checking the terminal connections, wires, cround connection, and solenoid. If all of those are good then we need to start checking the engine condition. Recently running or sitting for 5 years and full of rust?

check for battery connection or starter relay for a short to ground or volt..

Those codes are for the suspension in the front.
C0579 is LF Solenoid/Motor/Actuator Circuit Open
C0584 is RF Solenoid/Motor/Actuator Circuit Open

I would suspect that either the solenoid motors are bad or the wiring to them is damaged.

I need more details. Is the car engine " cranking' over at all, very slowly ect.
Do you hear any sounds when you turn ignition to start ?
Are the lights coming on in the dash when you turn on ignition ?
Do your headlights come on ?
Please let me know.

Could be the starter but first I would recommend having the battery checked. Sounds as though the battery may have a dead or shorted cell and causing this problem.

The most probable cause for this is a an intermittent problem with the Starter solenoid and/or starter.

When the car does not respond to turning the ignition key on can you hear a click from under the hood?

If you can that is the starter solenoid trying to turn on the starter motor. I would say the starter needs to be replaced.

If you cannot hear anything, then the solenoid ( which is just a relay) is probably bad.

I just replaced my startere on my F150, starter & solenoid come as a unit.... cost about $125.
