You have a fuel restriction to engine. could be a dirty fuel filter that dos not send full fuel flow to engine. if a fuel filter acts up a lot of times it will stall at stops or run very bad. if need be check fuel pressure. change filter first! good-day ! if ok, replace coolant temperature sensor.

also be sure air filter is clean and it is not restricting the air flow.

1986 Toyota p'up starts, but won't stay running once i left off gas pedal

first i would look for a vacuum leaks get it as close to idle as you can when cold and spray carb cleaner around and also check to see if the egr valve is stuck open this will act as a vacuum leak but not detect as one spraying carb cleaner around carb cleaner with change the engine speed near a vacuum leak

98 s70 starts but won't stay running when given gas

It sounds to me like it is not getting any fuel. Please note that when you step on the accelerator, you are not stepping on the "gas", you are really stepping on the "air". If the engine stalls when you do this, it is most likely because there is not enough fuel to go with the air that you are giving it. There are many things that could possibly cause this, ranging from a defective fuel pump assembly to a bad Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor as well as several other things.

I would recommend BEGINNING diagnosis of the problem by scanning your engine control computer for possible Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs) A.K.A. "fault codes". Then you may want to follow with a fuel pressure test (depending on whether there are any DTCs present that must be fixed first.)

2000 nissan maxima won't fire when trying to start. it turns over but won't fire. it started once and ran but won't start again

sounds like it might be flooded. Try and remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block that is just in front of your left knee. While it is out crank the car and see if it wants to start and hold down the gas pedal all the way and then relase it and back and forth and once you get it to run have the fuse ready in your hand and in front of the spot to install it. and then keep the rpm's up with the gas pedal until the smoke clears out behind the car.
