How do I replace a fuel filter on a 2000 f-150?

under car back by fuel tank along frame rail on the passenger side. its about 3.5" long and about 2" in diameter, with the fuel lines screwed into each end of the filter. its mounted to the frame rail by a bracket.

2. Install the special tool between the line & filter & slide it toward the filter to release the metal tangs that hold the line to the filter.

release the pressure firs like take gas cap off there are some speacil tools called quick release tools some people just use a small screwdriver to pop it off it should be on driver side by the drivers door under neath the car if its a four door this driver door im talking about

I changed a lot of filter on the ford explorer models, and if they are similar, there is a tool needed to "open" up the metal tangs to allow removal. They make them in plastic, that are cheap, or metal plier style.
We had an issue or rust and corrosion getting in the connection area.
What we did was spray penetrating fluid in the connection as you work the tool in and push the line in and out of eachother. This take a while to get the junk out, so be patient. Hope this may help

Try spraying it with some penetrating oil and allow to soak in for about 15 minutes and give it another try. This can soak into the threads to apply lubrication and help free up corrosion so that you may remove it.

it takes a special tool to disconnect these lines. go to your local auto parts store and ask for the fuel line disconnect tool.once you have the tool put it on the fuel filter prong that the fuel line is connected to and slide the tool up into the gas line, at the same time pull the line away from filter. you may half to try this several times.also when the tool slides up into the line twist the line and push in and out. in short thare is a spring up in that line that gets stiff and corroted so moving the line around while the tool is in place helps free up this sprind.also spray a little lubracant in the ends of the lines before beginning.

The fuel filter is under pressure so be sure to remove the gas cap before attempting to remove the filter. If not you will strip out the nuts. Run your vehicle until the reserve fuel light has been on for 20 or so miles. This way you can let the remaining fuel (1-2 gallons) run into a gas can and you can reuse it. Unscrew the nuts from the gas tank side and the engine side, then install the new filter. The fuel filter is located on the passenger side, almost directly under the front seat, but on the undercarriage. Hope this helps.
