Yes, you may have put the wires on the starter wrong. There is a positive post and an ignition post. If they touch or one is touching ground then the starter will engage.
have you tried tapping on the starter with someone in the vehicle turnung the key to the start position? this is one thing to try a you should be able to reach the starter from under the hood. try this and if it starts, replace the starter. cheers
On the driver side of the transmission pan there is a fill plug. The car must be in the air and level. With the car running fluid will run out of the plug hole when it is full. This is no fun without a lift.
