1997 Crown Vic blows radio fuses

Couple of days ago I lost power to the radio, the clock and the dome light in my 1997 Crown Vic. All factory, nothing added. Replaced the radio fuse (I think #11 - 15A) and it immediately blew out again. Anyone know of any common problem causing this before I have to start the long task of tracking down a short? Any help would be appreciated. Couple of days ago I lost power to the radio, the clock and the dome light in my 1998 Crown Vic. The quickest way to find a short circuit is by putting a bulb in place of the fuse. Anytime the time the bulb lights there is a load. And if the load is a shorted wire the brightness of the bulb will give you a hint. So while you're at it, finding a 'short' is a quicky...keep your eyes on the bulb. gotcha!

'99 Ford Crown Vic LX: #12 30A Maxi fuse blows seconds after starting or ignition turned on.

i had this problem with my 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo with the brake lights it kept popping fuses right after the ignition was turned on try putting a higher amp fuse in place of the old one that keeps blowing then check for shorts to the starter and check grounds and wires and also the transmission issue check the fluid and then if the fluid is fine change the transmission filter the filter may have not gotten replaced when the transmission was rebuilt and may be clogged or dirty

On my 1995 crown vic. one day horn blew on its own for about an hour. i looked and fuse was blown now when i put new fuse in and hit horn, horn sounds for second and fuse blows. everytime i put fuse i

Sounds l;ike the horn itself has a short. Try another from a salvage yard. If fuse blows again, it's likely a wire to horn that lost insulation and touching metal.
Good luck.

Radio does not work on my 2004 Crown Vic

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You need to check your radio fuse first. It may have blown. If it hasn't, you may need a radio code to unlock it, say if you have lost power to it due to a battery disconnection. If not, you need to check the wires in the back of the radio. They may be damaged or they might have just came loose.

AS I DESCRIBED BEFORE I HAVE A 1993 CROWN VIC WITH A DIGITAL DASH AND IT IS OUT. I HAVE CHANGED THE IGNITION AND IT STILL BLOWS FUSES RIGHT AWAY. I HAVE CHANGED ALL FUSES AND THE ONES UNDER THE HOOD AS...

I am hoping you have an Owners manual or Fuse Chart. For something like a Digital Dash it is usually grouped with other items. Look at the Fuse Chart and see what else is on the same fuse. Your Radio may be grouped with the Dash, Autolamp timer, to name a few.

You can unplug the other items grouped on the problem fuse. Then when the fuse does not blow, you have found the bad part. Sometimes doorjam contacts short out, but they would be fused as a Dome light.

You can use an Ohmmeter to test the Fuse holder when the Battery is disconnected. The fuse is blowing because something is grounding. When you find the bad wire, the Ohmmeter should show a drop in the meter. Remember to disable anything in the same group used by the fuse. When you do, there should be nothing to ground out and the meter should drop to zero.

I have pulled a Digital dash out of a Mark 7. That was almost a 2 hour job, but there was nothing to test but a simple plug-in.

Radio/clock/dome light won't work

Under the hood near the left front strut tower there's a fuse box. In the fuse box there is a blown 15amp fuse. The fuse will be blue in color. Replace the fuse and the radio, clock and dome light will come back on.

1997 Crown Vic blows radio fuses

Try checking all the grounds for the radio, over time they can weeken. If that doesn't work, put in a new ground wire with a heavier gauge, that should fix it. It sounds like a ground problem.

Good luck, Daniel
