1984 Toyota Cressida will not run or start with junk yard computer replacements. Toyota dealership changed igniter, now it tries to start. got 3 different computers on line. 1 out of 3 (other one had burnt board other worse than mine) only junk yard computer that had hopes makes car engine run rough, but no throttle control, but engine will die if you do not punch petal to revive engine in seconds. Car worked for 250,000 miles perfectly and last few weeks it would quite, jump start with different distributor next time it wood not start; use first distributor to jump start engine next time(as soon as it tried to start(spin hand held one) reconnect distributor in car to proper plug and it works for day or so. Engine never stopped on its own. It just would not start when you stopped it at Wal-Mart? Then nothing could revive engine. No signal to injectors (even after a hand held distributor spin jump).

SOURCE: 1998 toyota corolla will not start in cold weather.

It reads like a 'draw', a 'short', or a parasitic current draining your battery. All batteries are weakened by cold weather, so the combo just isn't good for it.

You must have a fresh known good battery that is now fully charged. To check it, start your car with it, then DETACH THE BATTERY every time the car is parked.

  1. If the battery always works when you reconnect it, it clinches the diagnosis, parasitic current.
  2. If the battery still gets weak after detached, it means the alternator is bad, and the battery is not getting enough charge.
The above 2 are simple things you can do to diagnose it yourself. #1 can keep you running all winter, #2 will need professional service soon as it will eventually lead you stranded somewhere.

Until you fix it completely you can also get a trickle charger to keep your battery in shape overnight, and get a portable booster battery for safety. There are many models, they look like this.637e527.jpeg

SOURCE: 1993 camry running rough

Make sure you don't have a faulty fuel injector, this may be the cause, also use a can of carb spray and spray around the intake gasket to check for leaks, if one is present you will notice a diff in the engine sound when the spray hits it.

Hi!!

During cold engine starting, the cold start injector is used to supply additional fuel to the intake manifold to aid in initial start-up. The opening and closing of the injector is determined by the start injector time switch. When the engine coolant temperature falls below a certain point, the switch opens the cold start injector. As the engine coolant warms up, the switch will close the injector.

Your problem sounds like fuel delivery problem, let's start bychecking the following fuses

M-fuse (AM2 30A)
Fuses (EFI 15A, IGN 7.5A)
EFI main relay
Fuel pump
ECM
Wiring connections

Next step is replacing the fuel filter and checking fuel pump pressure.

Good look!! Keep me posted!!

Where is the fuel filter located in 1984 Toyota Cressida

The fuel filter is in the engine compartment, rear of passenger side.

You may have prime the pump:
remove the gas cap, underhood, loosen a fuel connector, wrap the loosened connector with a shop rag to catch the fuel and crank the starter a few seconds, do not let the engine run. Check the rag for fuel, if gasoline has been delivered: Tighten the connector and fuel tank cap, properly dispose of the rag.
