I have a 98 durango and when that happened to me the dealer had me put my key in the drivers door and lock and unlock the door 5 times with the key and it reset my alarm. It worked like a charm.
What you can try doing is disconnect the negative battery cable. Put the key in the ignition and turn on. Reconnect cable and see if alarm is quiet and if egine will start.
