Whining noise from under hood begins when I start the truck and it gets louder when I apply the throttle even when I'm in neutral. It started after I went mudding. I changed my power steering fluid just in case water got in it but it didn't do anything. Could my alternator be messed up from mudding? Its coming from the serpentine area.

SOURCE: Whini.ng when in movement, doesn't whine when parked or neutral

It may not be your trans at all. Look in the wheel wells for any loose plastic panels/mud flaps that may be hitting the tire. Give a slight tug on those panels to see if they are loose. Many times a loose panel will only contact the wheel when there is air moving to push it into the tire.

SOURCE: rattling noise from front near alternator

Hi.
I think the problem is the power take off for the front fan ,steering etc. Underneath the middle of the car you will see what looks like a small propshaft pointing towards the front with a doughnut shapped mounting bolted to each end. These rubber joints wear and rattle on tick over or low revs cost is about £40 for the 2 from Japarts
Takes about 2 hours to change.Hope this helps Good luck

SOURCE: whining in the engine

I had the same whining noise, but after a minute or two it would go away. It turned out to be my water pump. It wouldnt turn first thing in the morning and the belt was just running through the pulley, (causing the whining noise). This may not be your problem, but it is easy to check. Just pop your hood and see if the fan is turning.

Whining humming noise under hood

If the engine is not reaching optimum operating temperature it will indeed give you a "check engine light",the code will lean you in that direction as well. The noise your hearing more than likely is coming from the "clutch fan",they are very common on the TrailBlazers to make noise and fail. The oil light... you certainly need to have the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gage.

Humming or whining noise at idle, stops when gas petal applied

wow, no body ,year, or engine options stated, are you kidding?
we cant hear it, hand bends ear?
why not , open the hood, take a rubber hose to ear
move end about engine (avoiding fan and belts)
find the object that sings.

2006 pontiac torrent whining sound coming from rear when driving

The only thing I would think of is. At the GM dealer ask for a service bulletin for the 2006 Pontiac Torrent if any or look for any changes in body configuration and under the car. Whining noise could be a big puzzle. Need a very good technician in noise problem to find out and very expensive to find if not under warranty.

Hope it helps.

The problem I posted earlier is on a 1996 Buick LeSabre.

two things it would be 1 your battery could be bad even if it is not
dead and will start your car it could have a bad cell
the other thing could be the belt is loose and not letting the alternator
spin fast to charge the battery so it slips on the belt but thats what the noise is the belt check the battery at autozone for free
and if thats not it its the belt
