The brake lights on my 2004 Dodge Dakota stopped working. The flashers, running lights and turn signals work. I have changed the brake light switch, but the brake lights still don't work. I located both fuse boxes, but there is no fuse listed on the panel as a brake light fuse. I can't find anything in my owners manual that says anything about brake lights. Help!

I think fuse 24 in the Integrated Power Module (IPM) under the hood is the fuse for the brake light system. It should be a 15 amp fuse. This fuse does not feed the lights directly except for the high mounted light on back of the cab. The rear brake lights are controlled by the Front Control Module (below and part of the IPM) based on a signal from the brake switch. The FCM gets its power from fuses 11 and 13 in the IPM (both 30 amp fuses). If all the fuses are good, you'll need to check the wiring and the FCM.

Check the bulbs for continuity, the bulb holders for internal corrosion and the connections themselves for integrity.

SOURCE: 2000 dodge dakota quad cab turn signal problems, but flashers work. started out the turn signals would flash several times then quit. now i have nothing.

Either a multifunction switch, or a body control module problem. Possibly the flasher itself.

SOURCE: 1997 dodge avenger turn signal probs and location

replace the turn signal switch it self, mine did the same thing with the left turn signal, put in fuse and it will continue to flash... went to junk yard pulled one out of a 97 avenger just like mine, swapped them out and now it works fine. looked to be like some corrosion... to repace: 3 screws under columb, 2 screws on side of signal switch (black plastic side). unplug and replace

SOURCE: o2 Dodge Dakota Brake lights wont work but bulbs r good.

If the bulbs are good I would suspect the Brake light switch.

Brake Light Switch: Testing and Inspection
The brake lamp switch can be tested with an ohmmeter. The ohmmeter is used to check continuity between the pin terminals.
Switch Circuit Identification
- Terminals 1 and 2: brake lamp circuit
- Terminals 3 and 4: RWAL/ABS module and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) circuit
- Terminals 5 and 6: speed control circuit
Switch Continuity Test
NOTE: Disconnect switch harness before testing switch continuity.
With switch plunger extended, attach test leads to pins 1 and 2. Replace switch if meter indicates no continuity.
With switch plunger retracted, attach test leads to pins 3 and 4. Replace switch if meter indicates no continuity.
With switch plunger retracted, attach test leads to pins 5 and 6. Replace switch if meter indicates no continuity.

1999 dodge Dakota. No rear brake or turn signals. Front signals are good. 3rd brake light good. Rear running lights are good. Just rear turn and brake on both sides. Replaced flasher relay no change. ...

The lower brake lites are wired through the multifunction switch. The high-mount stop lamp is wired differently. Stop and turn at the rear use the same bulb filament, just not at the same time. See the D and E at top, that is voltage for either stop or turn. The black wire from bottom of lamp should be ground.

Brake lights 1990 dodge Dakota don't work is there an in line fuse that I am missing

Check the switch on the brake pedal first, then if you have power to it and power goes out when pedal is pushed you probably have a broken wire under the chasis

1998 Dodge Dakota blinkers stop working changed flasher now brake lights, blinkers, and hazard lights will not work.

Follow the flasher wiring to fuse box and locate the fusible link. Looks just like the wire but softer exterior and it's a fuse able wire that can break down. Should be along the driver fender under hood.

1995 Dodge Dakota signal light and brake lights quit

I had the same problem that the brake light / turn signal on the right side didn't work (in the 2006 Dodge Caravan it's the same bulb). After a long search I found the problem: There was corrosion on the contact of the bulb assembly. After scraping off the corrosion everything works now.

2004 dodge dakota. brake lights not working but bulb is good. taillights and turn signals are working. Is there a mechanical switch by the brake pedal to look for??

there is a switch above the brake pedal that turns the brake lights on when u depress the pedal, use a volt meter set to DC volts and check for voltage to the switch and out of it when the brake pedal is depressed, see p[icture of switch belowe364f34.jpg

Brake lights don't work

Toggle the 4 way flasher switch on and off a few times and see if that corrects problem, if it doesn't replace the switch.
