MY 1996 JEEP CHEROKEE STARTS AND RUNS GREAT WHEN IT'S COLD BUT WHEN I DRIVE IT SAY 60 MILES AND SHUT IT DOWN GO IN SIDE SOME WERE AND COME BACK OUT AND I TRY TO START IT. IT STARTS AND THEN STARTS RUNNING ROUGH LIKE ITS RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND SHUTS DOWN I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY THING LIKE THIS THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO START IS OPEN THE HOOD AND RELIEVE THE FUEL PRESSURE FROM THE FUEL RAIL WHEN I DO THIS THERE IS A LOT OF AIR MIXED WITH GAS THIS CHANGES EVERY THING I THOUGHT I KNEW ABOUT FUEL INJECTION IT WAS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT WHEN YOU RELIEVE THE FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD HAVE A STRAIT STREAM OF GAS COMING OUT I'M STUMPED!

Well, not sure. sounds like a over-rich condition. Get your fuel pressure checked. get it diagnosed properly before you throw a bunch of parts at it. savesin long run. sorry i cant help more.

Ignition module may be heat failing. Does it have spark when it spins over but will not run ? Does the tachometer register when spinning it over when it does not want to run ?
Sounds like the coil has gone bad. This is usually the syptoms of this. When it is in the non crand status cool the coil down quickly with ice and see if it doesnt crank.
Possible electrical problem. If the module in the distibutor gets hot it will shut the vehicle down, let it cool down for about 10 min. and it starts again ?
waterpump houseing/shaft seal is on the way out hence the water/coolant, running along the block. when hot the seal does so, when cold and depressurising seal doesnt.
Any all wheel drive will give less fuel miles.(compared to ones you engage as needed) The Chrysler v8 is a time proven engine, pretty much a copycat of a chevy with some changes to make it their own. Overall, I haven't heard any really bad stuff about them. If you look at the problems on this site, there seem to be fewer jeep probs than all other vehicles. (even though some problems are really weird!!!) What you really need to see is the vehicles history to make sure it's been maintained and has not been back to a shop for the same thing over and over. Did you know Jeep did a recall and paid for replacement of catalytic converters on 1996 models (don't know about any others) - they reimbursed me for work done, up to a point - hope this helps!
