Check wireing for loose conections first,if good, have both battery/solinoid and relay checked out
FIRST CHECK BATTERY VOLTS SHOULD BE 12.6 VOLTS. IF YOU HOOK A JUMPER BATTERY TO YOUR VECHICLE BATTERY AND VECHICLE STARTS WITH NO CLICKING.THEN YOUR BATTERY AND BATTERY CABLES COULD BE CORRODED. CLEAN BATTERY CABLES.IF BATTERY IS 12.6 VOLTS AND YOU USE A JUMPER BATTERY AND STARTER STILL MAKE CLICKING NOISE. YOUR STARTER SOLENOID OR STARTER FAULTY.FIRST TURN OFF RADIO TO KEEP FROM LOCKING IT OUT WHEN YOU DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TO CLEAN BATTERY CABLES OR REPLACE STARTER.
I agree with the other answers. You can also get a starter draw test at Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys for free. This will let you know if the inside of the starter is bad. It can be a corroded connection that burns through to good metal when you hold the key to start it more than with one try.
It would also be good to have the battery load checked as sometimes when they start breaking down they act goofy.
Noises are confusing--try cleanin and titening batt cables--could also be starter area or ignition switch--dont replace parts till u know
I would take the battery out and have it load tested at the nearest Auto Parts store like Auto Zone or Advance auto. Double check the connections on the battery for corrosion on the terminals and under the insulation fist. also check for loose connections and corrosion where the Positive connects to the solenoid and the power distribution box. Finally, assuming this vehicle has never been in an accident or possibly in a ditch or run on rough roads then consider the solenoid and ignition switch if the relay checks out.
Read all previous answers and follow, everything in the vehicle electrical system for diagnosis purposes starts with a good battery, that is the most important thing to do first!!! everything else cones after.
There is a starter relay in the battery junction box under the hood....
