Its pretty simple

Remove the drive shaft

remove the tires

remove the calipers and rotors if rear disk and then remove the ebrake shoes/cables.

If rear drums remove the drums. remove the shoes and the e brake cable. remove the backing plate bolts. remove backing plate from axle and support with a piece of wire from the frame being careful not to distort the brake line.

remove the bolt that holds the breather an brake junction to the axle.

remove the break line from the tabs (may not have them).

remove the shocks from the axle.

remove the u-bolts from the axle.

pull the axle out.

also if rear drum you will need to pull the axles to remove the backing plates. or you can remove the brake line from the wheel cylinders and leave the backing plates on. To remove the axles you will need to pull the diff cover. Rotate the diff until the diff pin bolt is accessible. Remove the bolt, pull the pin, push the axles inward, drop the c-clips, then pull the axles out.

Front and back berring dissassembly of differential 2001 dodge 1500

For the rear diff., remove the driveshaft, brake drums, diff. cover, remove pinion flange nut, move diff carrier to access side gear retainer bolt and remove bolt, slide side gear pin out and push axles in to remove axle retainers and remove axels. Mark carrier bearing retainers, spin bearing retainers to loosen carrier for removal. Remove carrier, remove pinion out of diff case, then r&r bearings. Any shims should be replaced in their original location for depth and pinion to ring contact.

Hello, the rear axel seal on my Dodge Ram Dually

is not that bad just take the tires off then take the diff cover off take the drum or disc off on some truck there is four bolts on the end of the axle tube that you have to remove to get the axle out. but, if you look insider the diff and see two clips that look like a c ust take the bar that runs threw the middle of the diff and holds the spider gears inplace and keeps the axle from moving back and forth out and push the axles in and remove the clips then pull the axle out and rip the sear out and install the new one.

How do i remove the rear axels on a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 3.6 v8

this is for front axle removing.you have too take off the wheel then the brakes, then you have to remove the 3 bolts on the back of the wheel assembly and lightly take a mallet and tap the wheel assembely out. and it all just pulls out after that. ------------- for rear axle . for the axle shaft, jack the rear of the truck up take off the wheels and brake drums.make sure truck is securly supported with jackstands.remove the differental cover locate the bolt that holds the cross pin in the carrier.remove the bolt, slide out the cross pin.push the axle in towards the center and remove the c-clip holding the axle in.remove the axle shaft carefully so not to damage the bearings or seal. ----------- You need to remove a bolt inline with the axles on the spider gears which holds the center pin in place. Remove the pin, rotate the spider gears to the other side. Now move the axles inward to reveal the c-clips and use a hemostat to remove. Of course the the truck is up on jacks with the tires removed. this will help.
