SOURCE: 1997 Ford Taurus, Won't Shift Past 3rd Gear

The forward clutch control valve has a retaining clip that is known to break on these tranny's. This can prevent it from shifting into 4th gear. Good news, the part is five bucks. Bad news, it's in the valve body which takes a few hours to get to. I fixed mine in about 8 hours thanks to great step by step instuctions I found online. Search for "valve body removal taurus tranny". If it's not the retainer clip then it could be one of the solenoids on the valve body. I believe there's one just for 3rd and 4th gear. Good luck

SOURCE: 1997 ford taurus starting problem

There are a few things to look at, one would be the ground wire, if this is tight and I assume it is by your posting, the next thing to do is place the vehicle in neutral and attempt to start the car. If it starts, that is the neutral safety switch. The vehicle should start with no problem after that. If not, please let me know and I will help you further.

1996 Taurus GL 3.0 OHV. How to diagnose trans popping out of drive?

Most likely you have a linkage problem between the shift lever and the transmission and or the rubber bushings for that linkage are bad. It can also be the pivot point of the shift lever.

1992 Ford Taurus automatic shutters and spins before going into gear. seems worse as the day warms up.

I would guess the car is on at least the second trans or rebuild, since 1992??
Either way I would like you to explain more about how it performs.
Having owned a trans repair shop years ago, most of my work was Taurus and Caravans, with some mixed Foreign vehicles.
That said,I wouldn't be thinking real positive on a quick or cheap fix.
Their easy to rebuild, but the driving public seems to ruin the older Taurus at a rapid rate. Just can not ignore fluid changes on any automatic or drive the way most people do. They won't take the constant aggressive driving behavour

I cannot find the transmission speed sensor...help.thank you... 1997 ford taurus..v6 3.0

your looking for the turbine speed sensor a.k.a transmission speed sensor and not the vechile spees sensor correct? they are two different sensors! the transmission speed sensor is on the side of the transmission facing the side of the car around 11 o'clock in relation to the output shaft witch is where the cv axle goes in! if it is the vechile speed sensonr then it is on top of the transmission tail house for the other output shaft and the other cv goes too. if you follow the transmisssion dip stick down to the transmission it is in that area! good luck

sorry, none. We did not use this engine in Europe. And automatic transmissions are not popular in Europe.
