I BOUGHT A LINCOLN ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND DROVE IT ABOUT 50 MILES, TESTING IT. ON SUNDAY MY BOYFRIEND AND HIS BROTHER TOOK IT FOR A *TEST DRIVE* WHEN WE DROVE HOME I HIT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN I TRIED TO TAKE OFF THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE TERRIBLY AND IT WOULDNT RESTART IN PARK. I COULD PUT IN NEUTRAL AND IT WOULD START, BUT THEN SHIFTING IT INTO REVERSE OR DRIVE IT WOULD DIE. COULD THIS BE DUE TO *JOY RIDING*??

Your asking if the car didn't like the way you drive it &
some how is playing a game with you?

IT IS A CAR --- not a human

Sounds as though you bought someone elses problems

You have to now go thru the entire car to sort out the issues

1997 Plymouth Breeze Engine keeps shutting off.

You need to do an OBD2 engine control module fault code test to see if the fault is recorded in the memory of the computer control module. Autozone and others do this testing for free.

Obd computer won't reset

you can force the engine light to come on with ready or not software (type it in on google) i have this gear. your ecu has to reconise all emmissions sensors data on a 3times in a row before it will complete a full diagnostics cycle.
the ready or not scanner and software will atomatically do everything for you and tell you when everything is ready (so much easier than messing about guessing all the time).
you can also program scanner to your state regulations aswell.think it's about $50 now

hope this helps.

I just bought a brand new battery for my 1996 Monte Carlo! I crunk the car and took both of the battery post off and the car stayed on! I put the battery in Friday night and drove it all day Saturday! I...

Yes, a car will keep running with the battery disconnected, although that is not a good idea with all the sensitive electronic circuits on cars today. You can fry something expensive quickly. It will keep running because all power to run everything is supplied by the alternator, not the battery.
Have the battery charged up again, and see what happens. I don't know why it went dead, unless you have a charging problem. Does the battery/alternator light go off after the car is started?

Hi. I have seen lincolns with 200,000 miles on em.. That said, I am a wee bit suspicious that your had exactly 100,000 miles on it when you bought it. Possible but not likely. Go to a reputable mechanic and see what he says. Shop around. Keep notes so you remember the details. Joe

Check engine light is on

I would disconnect the battery for three minutes and reconnect it. That should remove the code. You will have drive the car up to about 75 miles to see if the code does or does not show up again. It may have been reading the amount of air in the system from removal of the injector.

Check engine light sensors have been reset but don't show a reading

U will need to drive a mixture of stop and go, city low speed and freeway miles, this can take a week and 20-50 miles or so for the system to finish it's internal self testing. this is called a drive cycle test.

Battery keeps going dead.

obviously there is an abnormal drain on the vehicles electrical system. Examples of this are a glove box or conso;e light staying even though you closed it, is there a reading or compartment light on ? Anybody that just says "you need a battery without ALSO testing the electrical system for integrity is not helping,
