I imagine you have access to a scanner to know the Code message. Clear the Code and let the Diagnostic system continue to provide new information. You can get free scans at Autozone, Advance, and Oreily.

I believe you may have changed the wrong Coil if you do not know where Coil "B" is. Your system would have a coil on each sparkplug if it identified any Coil with a letter. The way it works is each cylinder 1-8 has an letter assigned to each plug. Plug 1 is Coil "A", Plug 2 is Coil "B" and so forth.

Your scan identified the number 2 cylinder as the problem. This coil would be directly on the plug. These coils usually have an electric value of 10,000Ohms from the top wire connector to the base of the coil.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.

1997 Ford Ranger crank no start

If spraying brake cleaner into the air intake allows it to fire, then the electrics are OK, it is a fuel issue.
If it doesn't fire up, it is electrical.

I have a 2003 ford ranger xlt 5 speed with 90,000 miles. When i take off in 1st it like sputters, then smooths out, same thing 2nd and 3rd. Have changed the plugs, wires, gas filter, injector cleaner...

It could very well be the coil pack.

I have the EXACT same problem with my 2000 Ranger.

Have changed the exact same things you have and the closest thing that helped at all was the wires\plugs.

I have researched this on the truck forums and many of these issues are being solved by the coil packs... (but not all)

Where is the ignition module control located on 1996 ranger 2.3 e

It does not have an ignition control module. The PCM (powertrain control module) fires the coil pack based on signal it recieves from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
