Carb back fires when giving gas think I got wires crossed up need diagram

Cadillac 425 engine firing order is 1 - 5 - 6 - 3 - 4 -2 - 7 - 8
Distributor rotation is clockwise .

on v8 engine , back firing is contributed to 2 plug wires crossed
check the firing order of the leads and check it with the engine make
it could be a crack between pins in the distributor cap or a carbon track between pins
use HT lead separators as ht leads touching each other will cross fire to a plug that has no or little compression

Cross firing spark plug wires is the most plausible cause, did you replace them? If not do that and route the wires like the factory wires where and use spark plug wire looms if the old ones are missing or broken, this is very important. Any good auto parts store can sell you new looms or you can buy them on eBay Motors

back firing through the carby is an indication of valve timing, bad valves, ignition timing or crossed HT leads. Check the firing order

you shouldnt need a diagram there should be numbers on the tension leads coming from the distibutor and numbers on the engine block near the spark plugs just match the numbers and the leads are usually different lengths, also the distibutor cap has to be in the correct position if not it is basically the same as crossing the wires and putting them in the wrong spot which will stuff up the firing order
